ok, so my heater comes on, shoots flames, makes my place warm and all that for about an hour to an hour and a half...then...the flames shut off...it tries to restart the flames...they come on, about 3 seconds later they shut off...waits another minute or 2, then attempts again...does this 3 or 4 times....then just starts blowing cold air out instead...any ideas of whats going on?

Did you pay the bill for whatever fuel you use?

You may need a new furnace otherwise.

Dunno what to suggest to keep the water pipes from freezing, do you know how to drain them, otherwise call a plumber.

In the mean time, seeing as how you have a gorgeous fiance, I think you can come up with a way to keep warm.

You're talking about your furnace, right? It's most likely the flame sensor. Carbon and crud can build up on it, preventing the sensor from detecting the flame. If it can't detect the flame, the furnace turns the gas off again.

If you want to fix it yourself, take some steel wool and clean all the crud off the sensor. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, it will probably cost you like $75-$150 for someone to come out and do it.

    That sounds about right.

I was also going to ask what kind of thermostat you used, it could be messed up if it's the electronic kind.

I'd say get it serviced. Not only will a pro get it running tip-top, they'll get it cleaner and more efficient. Heating is damn expensive, and making it more efficient will pay for itself. Then you can turn the heat down and watch your fiance put on the high beams!

If your furnace has a pilot light, look for a small probe that is inside the flame. Clean the gunk off the end of it with some sandpaper. It probably needs a good cleaning all over, call a pro.

my suggestion is see if you can get it fixed, before you go out and pay to have another one installed, and bought. that is going to cost you a lot of money to replace after all.
