not sure if this would go here in GD or Video Games, but... meh, here we go.

Ok, so, I know the usual responses that I'll be an idiot and all that, but, I just want to know what I COULD'VE done to prevent this from happening.

Here's the story. Sold a friend's WoW account on Craig's List using my paypal (since they didn't have a paypal account). I kept all the e-mails, screen capped the AIM conversations, all that good stuff. Anyway, I receive paypal, I send the account info, walk the guy through how to change the account over to his name. Everything is good to go... I go to sleep.

I wake up this morning with a Paypal dispute saying unauthorized transaction. Anyway, all morning I spent faxing in 14 pages of evidence that the transaction was legit (e-mails and AIM conversation) and sent in images of said evidence.

Now, what could have been done to prevent this from happening? This wasn't cheap and it's still in dispute ($1500 worth), so I'm hoping that I'll at least get SOME cash for her... if not, she'll have to contact Blizzard to get her account info changed back to her and we'll have to try this again somehow (she's done with the game but is broke and would still like to sell the account).

Where'd the $1500 come from , WoW accounts can't be worth that much.
If you listed it for that much he may think your crazy and decided to steal the account instead :lol

Blizzard may not want to change it back, but hope you get some cash or the account fixed.
Paypal will know better then we do what happened. Maybe dude was unverified or lacked the funds

In the buyer's defense, he wasn't stupid enough to actually hand over the money.

To the OP: I think you're pretty much boned. Paypal probably aren't going to be of any help as you were trying to do something they don't allow. Best case scenario with Blizzard is they'll reset the account's passwords so your friend gets it back. Worst case, they delete the account for violating their terms of service.

If the character is at a high level, then there are people out there willing to pay thousands for that account. This is why Blizzard banned the selling of accounts. People were making it a business to play WoW til they reach a high level and then resell the account for the lazy ones who wants high level characters but not willing to invest the time to get the high levels. I guess Blizzard didn't want people making money off there stuff. I've seen accounts go for around $5000.

    thanks for info,

Had no idea it's that crazy but it makes sense.
It'll take forever to level up that far, and time is priceless, so I can understand why.... whatever that's still crazy :lol

Muffin, I totally agree with you. lol

Back when SWG was good, I remember a friend selling and buying Jedi accounts. They bought one for $200, fixed it up, made it better, sold it for $800
