Turning a 1/100 scale Macross figure into a WST Jetfire!

A while back I purchased a set of three 1/100 scale Macross VF1 figures.
Roy Focker that had Jetfires head, Hikaru Ichijo that had his colors, and Max Jenius.

I removed Roy Focker's head and put it in place of Hikaru Ichijo. I used colored pint-stripping (colored-tape) to decorate his eye and various other details. I removed Jetfires antennas and painted them semi-gloss black to match G1's Jetfire. The Macross's antennas were originally dark-gray with white circles.
I then applied a small Autobot symbol on his crotch area. I might remove it and paint his crotch area red like the full-sized one. And no, I'm not going to castrasize him.

Anyway here are pics of the project in progress. My next step when the weather is warm, is to paint the VF-1J Super Weapon Set all red like Jetfires.

    It looks pretty good man.
I would paint his crotch area red and maybe switch the red and black on his chest
so that he looks more like the real one.

Thanks for the comments guys! I like the way he's turning out so far. I've mounted the antennas on his head and he already look's pretty darn convincing. I might mask off the nose and paint his crotch area red, but I think I'll leave his chest piece alone. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate and this is such a delicate toy I'd hate to ruin it by trying to perfect it. That's happened to me before with models.
There is beauty in simplicity you know. :)
Just wait till the body-armor is painted and installed! :D

    Here are the antennas mounted.

If I do decided to do his chest, it'll probably be brushed on rather than sprayed.

I still want to do a G1-style AcidStorm figure. Just need a seeker for it. :)

Parts to paint. Will use white primer, probably Guards Red, then the black details, and clear coat it.

Luckily, these parts are already red. Just need to slap on an Autobot symbol in the circle there. Trick will be trying to match the red for the other parts.

    Prepped, and primed the body-armor.

This Armory white primer has always worked well for me. Nice and smooth finish.

Now primed waiting for it to dry. Then add a coat of red.

I've decided if I'm going to paint his crotch red, then I'll swap the red/black on his chest.

Here's a coat of Guards Red. It tuned out to be brighter than the red that's on the engines, so I think I'll be painting those as well.

I'm going to have to wait a couple of days for this paint to dry well. I tend to paint thick but so far it look's pretty good. The trick is keeping my stinky hands off it and letting it cure before doing more work on it.

Here's a sneak peek of the body-armor mounted. Still needs some more paint work, but gives you an idea. With the armor painted red, he's really starting to look more and more like Jetfire. Enjoy!

He is more back-heavy with his jet pack mounted so there are some poses I can not do. Still gotta love this figure. :)

I think I almost nabbed one of these kits at Botcon'07. How much did this one set you back?

Very nice work btw. I love that he's like a voyager sized G1 Jetfire. This is what I had planned also.

VERY nice.... I too painted that very same figure a while back. Love the look of it. I started off with a very tiny figure too and now working on larger ones. Check out my: Evil Jetfire

This is too cool. I've always liked the 1/100th scale Valks.

Making this guy into a mini me is shaping up really nice. Looking forward to the finish.
