Finally my Grandfather sent me pictures of it. this is it a 1992 Ford Taurus Gl sedan I'm still working on my Permit but this is what the fruits of my labor are. It's not a bad car (considering i'm getting it for free) what should I name it ?
Congrats. Tauruses are awesome. Any distinct characteristics? Autobot? Decepticon? Does it need anything like brakes, suspension, etc.? Gives it more character if you name it based on its strengths or weaknesses.
I don't know the pictures were sent in this morning and my grandfather replaced some suspension bits.
Suspension. Hmmm... Call him Wildrider. He likes to go off-road but doesn't have the right suspension and gets in over his head when he gets stuck. He's very zealous.
Wasn't an all-encompassing motoring thread started by a mod because you posted nothing but endless threads about cars? Whatever happened to that?
Ignore the naysayers. That car ain't that bad. It might need some effort to fix the roof if what I see ain't the bits from the tree. If it is, just taking it for washing and polishing, with a new coat of wax will fix it right up with no problems.
Not bad for a first car. After all, we can't ALL get our dream cars as our first cars. Taurus looks like an Autobot to me, but what to name it I have no idea. It took me months just to come up with a name for my Jeep.
man for a second I was thinking you were getting a free SHO... but any ways congrats and treat it with care. As for a name I agree with the guy who said FreeRide its quite apt and it does not seem like its over kill for what the car is
That thing looks like it's been sitting in the weeds for a while. There is no doubt a good bit of rust all over the under carriage. I would also imagine that the brakes/rotors/drums are no good because of where it is sitting and for how long. Also being a 92 and sitting would have me worried about the reliability of the motor and integrity of all the rubber hoses. Not to mention 4 new tires. I'm not talking about all this stuff just to "spiffy" it up, but just to make it safe for you and the other drivers on the road. To put it bluntly, call that thing P.O.S.
Appearance-wise, polish the headlights, or replace them. Something people often overlook on their cars--they'll have gleaming paint, but dull yellow lenses... (plus it's another safety issue---old opaque lenses don't let as much light through)
THis! I strongly advise you to have a good mechanic give it a once over to see what needs to be replaced and what doesn't and to do the work to get it up to speed. as for a name call it Jackpot as you got it for free
I will also kindly point out that you could probably find a vehicle in better condition on Craigslist for like roundabout $2000-$3000; that's about a summer's worth of work for a much safer car that hasn't been sitting in the weeds for god knows how long.
I wouldn't call it a P.O.S just yet From what my Grandfather told me he's already checked it out and it needs a new water pump but that's about it I was planning to slowly give it an over haul as much as I can afford. Mainly because mot of my money will be going to car insurance and college next year when I get my licsense (home schoolers have to hold their permits for 9 months) I am well aware of any damage cause by sitting there for so long and will be getting it examined.
