I've been creating a utility/storage room in my basement to hide my furnace and hot water tank. This area is directly to the side of my man cave so I wanted to add some pizzazz. This is a work in progress but am proud to show it off.

If anyone has used these rolls of LEDs you know the adhesive on the back is terrible! I didn't want to rely on it alone so I 3D printed some brackets to secure the lights and hide the wiring.

It will eventually have glass shelving and doors. I also still need to extend the IR receiver for the light control box. Its behind the cabinet right now. I want it to be in front. I also have some ideas to make some 'energon tubes' but that will be later after I finish the rest of the wall.

P.S. - Metroplex sure enjoys the extra space. He's been couped up in my Detolf for months.

That is pretty freaking cool and highly impressive work. I do it the easy way and just spend entirely too much to buy my display cabinets, but I really like what you've done here. Nice work.

    Looking very nice so far!

I did just recently use some LED light tape, the adhesive maybe it's terrible strong, but where I have it, it's laying down so good enough for that.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments.

    Some points to note:

I almost made it go from floor to ceiling. I decided against that to keep the glass cost down. It should be much cheaper since the longest edge is 48".

The whole idea of a display cabinet came out of the blue while I was drawing up some plans for the utility room. I saw a big open space between the wall and where the shelving will be inside the utility room. So instead of dead space I made this.

The adhesive was 3M brand for the LED strips. I thought it would have held better when I first got them in the mail. My only concern at the time was the strips on the top/ceiling. I knew they'd come down over time. I'm glad I made a whole set. Plus my brackets hide the big hole for the wiring.

I put up 3 shelving rails to have adjustable shelves. As I think about it more, I might add in a bunch of those so I can put small shelves anywhere I want. I don't like the look of those brackets though, so that is my only reason I haven't already done it.

I'm going to use my LED strip scraps and make lighting underneath in those 2 small cabinets. They'll be separate from the display case lighting and I have an idea to make a switch that turns them on when you open the door. Its still a scribble on a notepad but I think I can make it work.

These kinds of threads are better suited for our Collections forum, so off we go!

D'oh! I contemplated which forum it should go in. I chose the other one because it already had so many threads about Ikea products and display cabinet furniture.

There hasn't been much cosmetic progress. I spent my long weekend fixing other people's laptops, lighting fireworks, and fixing my wife's car. Since my last post I have gotten the lights underneath hooked up. They're just on a toggle switch at the moment but its for a low voltage wire that I can make my automatic switch in the future.

I decided to add more rails. The more I thought about it, the more configurations I could do with the shelving. I found out the lights are bright! If I leave them on while I'm downstairs I eventually get a headache from how bright they are. Even turned down. So I put the rails directly in front of some of the worst offenders. Its making me re-think some diffusers.

I also did some rough joint compound work on the walls. Its real tough to see in my picture though.

The only thing I've got done was the cabinet doors on the bottom. I'm hoping to get all of the glass at once for the doors and the shelves. I just haven't done so yet.

Update time. I was able to finally get some glass panels after some mix ups at the glass supply company. I still have a magnetic pop-out latch that I can install, too. The hinges have built in catches but the magnetic one will give me some adjustment on the doors. So here are some pictures with and without some bots. I just threw in my largest ones from storage.

Looks pretty darn good! It's amazing how empty the cabinet looks at first, as if there is so much space. But then it's so easy to fill up the space with transformers goodness!

    Thanks guys.

I went through my last few storage bins and realized this is a good chunk of my large bots. I've got a handful more in my Detolf, but I realize I don't have as many Leader size or bigger bots as I thought I did. I didn't intend to clutter it up with Voyager or Deluxes too much.

I am thinking I'll fill the top row up with my favorite alt mode figures. There are a lot from the movies that make great cars but "eh" robots. I might also put as many deluxes at the bottom as I can fit. Would make Unicron and that big Prime I have seem even bigger. I might also swap out Prime for Metroplex. But then I might need to move the shelf up higher.

I really thought building it would be the hard part...
