Yup, you read the title right! As some already know, I'm a pastry cook. No, not pastry chef - pastry cook A pastry chef is at the top of the ladder, having been in the field for many, many years, while a pastry cook is at the bottom of the ladder, still honing their skills. I went to school in California for 8 months where I was part of an accelerated Baking and Pastry Arts Program. I currently live in Florida. I worked for Disney for just under a year and I now have an amazing job at The Peabody Orlando, a 4-star & 4-diamond hotel. I've been asked by a couple people to show pictures of the desserts that I've made, so here they are. I'm not going to post my pictures all at once since that would make for a VERY long first post. I'm going to post my pictures in groups. So let's start at the beginning, shall we? My first class that involved actual baking was Cakes. Please take note that a lot of the pictures I took at school aren't all that great because my camera was really crappy. It wasn't until it died, over halfway through the semester that I bought a much better one. An now, the cakes! White chocolate cheesecake Chocolate decadence cake Tiramisu Zugerkirschtorte Mocha raspberry torte Princess cake Yule log The next 2 images you're going to see are from my final. The final involved everyone in class deciding on a design for a wedding cake. We spent half a week working on our practice cakes before the chef spoke to the class as a group, telling us what needed to be added or changed. We were then given a week to perfect our wedding cakes. I've very pleased with how the final version of my wedding cake turned out. Practice wedding cake Final wedding cake (the image was altered so it would better fit in my portfolio)
Zugerkirschetorte means sugar cherry cake...I THINK. Kirsch torte is definitely cherry cake...but Zuger, that's debatable. I took 3 years of German in high school, and technically, the German word for sugar is zucker/zuckar (don't remember exact spelling). Zuger might just be an alteration of the word.
Man I why did I click on this thread? All it did was make me hungry. Especially now that I know what Zugerkirschtorte is. All very delicious looking.
That was enough to make all you guys hungry? You ain't seen nothing yet. My talents lie with plated desserts (what you'd get at a nice restaraunt). Just wait till I show you those pictures. =P
o__O Well, okay. But I think it's fair to warn you, that the cakes in all those pictures, if they still exist somewhere in this world, are close to being 2-years-old. I'll eventually post pictures of the desserts I'm making at The Peabody. I just have to remember to take my camera to work.
O_O... those are lovely, and look delicious. Very very delicious. Food makes everything good. If I ever get handfasted, yer making my cake.
