One, this would be better off in the Junkion.

Two, the fact that your illegal copy failed warms the cockles of my heart.

I thought the Chinese set, at least the one in the metal case, was legit.

Depends on what's on the packaging and inside the disc.

Until this year, everybody outside of North America had to deal with TV Loonland for the rights to produce Transformers G1 DVDs, as Loonland owned the rights for Sunbow's series and the Japanese G1 series internationally. I believe this meant that the DVDs had to have Loonland's logo on the packaging and when you play the DVD.

From what i know the one in the metal case is a legit copy. it's easily available here in s'pore. it's marketed for the asian market hence the chinese characters on the box & dvd menu.

That said the problem with playing it is maybe due to a manufacturing defect i.e low qc. b'coz i also have one of those HK released dvds & sometimes the player had difficulty reading it & was unable to play it. also it may skipped on certain scenes & then resuming playing again.

Happens every once in a while.

I thought it was legit too. I bought mine from TFSource and I don't think it mentioned anything about it being KO or bootleg. In fact it they state on their webpage that it is an officially licensed product of Hasbro Asia. You can go to TFSource and check it out.

Which in itself sounds off, because until this year, Hasbro didn't even own the international rights to the G1 cartoon. They only had the rights for North America.

That's why there was the big news about them buying back the worldwide rights for the Sunbow catalogue from TV Loonland.

Yeah, the Chinese metal box set that's sold on Amazon, etc. is an official region-free international release, licensed by Hasbro.

It's also the best commercially available transfer out there. Been meaning to pick it up myself.

Sorry for your misfortune, dude, and don't listen to the misinformed rudeness.

The Chinese metal boxed version is legit I believe and I believe it was licensed through TV Loonland by whomever distributed it. I've never owned a copy of it myself so I can't say whether or not it actually has TV Loonland written on it anywhere or not, but it should if it's the official version that I'm thinking of.
