This almost belongs in the Highs/Lows thread.

    LOWS:
Long having outgrown the ability to store my collection at my house, I keep it in an air-conditioned storage unit in large Rubbermaid bins.

    http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d21/amspictures/pict0328.jpg

The air conditioner drain backed up and started spilling water onto my collection. Not a problem, right? After all, they're all stored in plastic bins. EXCEPT for the fact that a couple of bins had cracks in the lids. D'oh!

My Binaltechs took the brunt of it... the water was about 1/8 of an inch deep in the bottom of the bin. Thankfully, I had stored them on their ends, so only one end of each box actually got wet. No damage to any figures, just a bit to the cardboard. The hair dryer and I went to work, and a bit later, I'm happy to say the damage is very, very minimal. Cosmetically, you can't really see it unless you look for it, and only about four of them got really damp. BT-17 wasn't in the bin, thankfully.

    HIGHS:
If the lid had not been slightly cracked on the Binaltech bin and collected the water, the water would have run off onto the bins BELOW it, which contain my MIB Japanese G1. Liokaiser, Raiden, Dinocassettes, Headmaster heads, etc... *shudder* Needless to say, everything has been moved well away from the A/C unit.

Anyone else ever have any water damage to their collection?

I dropped G1 Prime in a pool once, long story.

I dove in after him and got my clothes wet, but that's about it.

Maybe you should have, I dont know, played with them? Far be it for me to tell someone what to do, but unless you're starting a museum of some sort you should expect mother nature to go bezerk on things every now and then. Every animate and innanimate thing is subject to her.

I'll never understand why, on the internet, someone cannot just post a simple story with receiving some sort of ridicule.

I'm glad the damage was only minimal, it could've been a whole lot worse.

Aye, glad they got off lightly. And really glad the MiB G1 goodness didn't get damp. The worst I've had to deal with in my collection so far is dead bugs and the like.

I've dealt with water, my dorm room was flooded once. It sucks big time getting your stuff destroyed like that. Sh*t happens. At least you seem to be handling it well.

The fact that the damage was a tiny fraction of what it COULD have been certainly makes it easier to deal with.

I'm sure there are others who have experienced water problems before. What are those things you northern folks have--"basements", or some such thing?

Any flooded basements that destroyed or damaged collections?

Man that sucks dude, though like you said thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been. But still if it was my BT's I would freak, way more so then if it was just Energon or somethin.

Speaking of damaged collections, some of my stuff recently got trashed in a move. Was moving out of my apartment as I graduated from school this year so some stuff didn't quite make it. Most notably my Hasbro Alt Nemmy Prime which got totally trashed to the point were I now have to buy a new one at Botcon. Thankfully though that was really the worst of it, some other stuff got trashed too as well as some minor dings and scratches but nothing major by any means.

I lived in North Carolina for a couple of years while i was in the army. Used quite a bit of uncle Sam money to really start my collection. Any body who lives or has lived in the southern US ecpecially the coast/gulf know how crappy the humidity can get so just to be careful I kept a dehumidifier in my collection room. Worked great. Then during my second deployment I had to keep all my stuff in a storage unit that would not insure. While in Iraq i hear from my wife (who was living with my sister in Missiouri) that N.C. had been hit by a hurricane. So for the next 9 months I expected to come home and find that all my stuff was ruined. I get home and find that nothing was damaged- out of 60 storage units only 10 had no water damage. :thumb
So when I finally get out of the army I decided to move back to Montana. Roughly a 2500 mile drive which I had all ready done three times so wasn't worried. Worked out my schedule, had my sister tow my car with her truck and I towed the Uhaul with my truck. Barely crammed every thing I had into the bed's of the trucks and uhaul and get ready to leave.

    Rained for four days straight.:(

Turns out half of my collection went into the back of my sisters truck which had a tarp half the first day but somehow disintegrated by the time we hit tennesse.

My casulites where most all of my TRU reissues including Prime Starscream and Ultra magnus, all my MISB Alt's and to my horror my MISB Shockwave and MIB Omega Supreme:cry
I died a little that day.

Thankfully when the basement flooded in the house I was living in last year, I had my Alts (the only TFs I had with me at the time) were displayed on my desk, so no damage came to them. Glad everything worked out for you in the long run ams!
