I got a SNES and Sega Genesis recently, and I'd like to know which games are worth getting. Post your suggestions here.

Bad move, now you are going to make me miss lunch, hehehe.

    Genesis:
Phantasy Star 2 and 4 (4 you will enjoy even by today's standards.
Streets of Rage 2 (must have)
    Earthworm Jim
    Shining Force 1 and 2
Herzog Zwie (Before Command and Conquer was, Herzog was, and you play as a Transformer
    Flashback (ahead of its time)
    Aladdin (yes the Disney one)
Shinobi 3 and Revenge of Shinobi
Dungeons and Dragons Warriors of Eternal Son (very challenging though)
    Thunderforce 4
GUNSTAR HEROES (grab a friend, this one is the best ever)
edit: How could I forget Comix Zone (This game is hard as hell, but amazing-looking)

    SNES:
    Actraisser
Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (6 in Japan)
    Zelda (Must have...MUST)
    Super Mario World
    TMNT
StreetFight 2 (if you don't already own a newer version
Star Fox (ahead of its time in a sense)
Mario Kart (slower than the newer ones, but still fun)
    CHRONO TRIGGER
The Three Star Wars Movie games

There are more, but I'm sure our fellow posters will cover my holes.
Also if you have a PS2, before you spend money on some of the Genesis ones, Phantasy Star 2-4, Shinobi3, Comix Zone, and Golden Axe 1-3 are in the Genesis Collection for 20 bucks.

    Genesis:
    Sonic 1-3 (Sonic's best games.)
    Toejam and Earl 2
    (Maybe) Castlevania Bloodlines

    Snes:
    Super Castlevania 4
    Castlevania: Dracula X

Road Rash 2 for the Genesis. I have never found any bliss quite like launching off the highest hill in the land at 200mph and walloping a dude in the head with a chain.

In addition to whats already been posted for the SNES -

    Yoshis Island
    Mario RPG
    Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator
    Super Bomberman 1 - 3
    R-Type 3
    Alien 3
    Axelay
    UN Squadron/Area 88

Not sure which TMNT game Windcharger was refering to, but you need both. Turtles in Time is better gameplay wise then its arcade version and SNES Tournament Fighters is the best console-only 2D fighter evar.

Macross - Scrambled Valkyrie is pretty good as well, buts its Japan only and I have no idea how hard or expensive finding a copy would be.

Mortal Kombat II is a MUST HAVE for Genesis, as well as Ultimate MK III.

For the SNES? Any Mario game, really.

Both were better on the SNES, althougth I wouldent recommend playing them on either now that much better ports are floating around on modern systems. Same goes for Strider and any version of SF2 since they've been mention as well.

I'm surprised so many people are speaking up for Altered Beast, I found it pretty hideous compared to what I remembered it being when I revisited it.
