Hey guys. I am trying to figure out what are the "must - have figures" from the movie line (first two) and animated. I had a lot of figures from ROTF and mostly all of them for animated. But back then (I was like 13 I'm 16 now) I wasn't really serious about collecting as I would let my friends borrow my toys and I would never get them back. Or I wouldn't take good care of them and lose prices or break them. So I am trying to start collecting for real this time . So like I said before, if you could let me know must have figures that would be great. And any advice on startin a good collection thanks ^__^

    Human Alliance Jazz.

Also, no ROTF collection is complete without at least 10 Tuner Mudflaps.

To be honest, I think it all relies on preference & perception. Yeah, it's cool to have people tell you how awesome the Leader Starscream or whatnot are, but it's really going to come down to you wanting to spend enough time looking at things before you buy, and then letting yourself get attached to whatever you happen to want the most.

... but yeah, Leader Starscream is probably the best movie figure in my opinion that I'd like (but that I don't wanna pay for), while others like Mixmaster & Sideswipe are my more affordable favorites. I generally like the G1/G2/Beast Wars stuff more though (as well as the classics/generations/etc), but again, it all comes down to preference. Generations Thrust & RTS Jazz are 2 of my favorites in particular, but I don't know if I'd really call them (or anything) "must haves".

Oh yeah, and Animated Blur is easily my favorite animated figure (the helicopter Megatron is prolly my 2nd), so look into those as well. :)

If you're just focusing on these lines, then:

    Animated
    -basically every one!

    Movie 1
    -deluxe Arcee
    -deluxe Landmine
    -possibly voyager Ironhide

    Movie 2
    -leader Optimus
    -leader Starscream
    -scout Skystalker
    -scout Breacher
    -scout Hubcap
    -deluxe Sidearm Sideswipe
    -voyager Mixmaster
    -voyager Battle Blade Optimus
    -deluxe Battle Blade Bumblebee
    -any Human Alliance

These are the ones I personally think stand out in those lines, off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, the scouts. Hubcap & Crankstart are easily my favorites, and I wouldn't look past the PCC Bombshock + combatatons either. I'm honestly not sure what "line" he's from, but I honestly find the hate for him to be kinda unwarrented.

um, well it depends on what scale you prefer. I'd say there are a few obvious ones:
    LEADERS:
    -Prime
    -Starscream
-I personnally have the movie 1 Megs, I think he's okay. Some people don't like it though. If you'd rather wait for a DOTM Megs, I don't blame you.
-MAYBE Jetfire. He's basically just an add-on set for Prime with a transformer built around it.
    -Brawl (He's awesome)

    VOYAGERS:
-If you want a Ratchet, I'd say either go for the movie 1 original, or the Rescue Ratchet. It's up to you, really. There's, like 4 repaints of it now.
-Ironhide from movie 1 or 2 if you don't mind the colors. I think the DOTM one is the best, so far though.
    -Mindwipe (he's VERY awesome)
    -Bludgeon (same, he's awesome)
    -Longhaul is cool, IMO.
-Seaspray (probably one of the best out there)
-DOTM Shockwave (He rocks. Great for the movie line)
    DELUXES:
    Few highlights;
    -Battle Blades Bumblebee
-Breakaway (the mold's really good. He has 2 variants...)
    -Tomhawk
    -Terradive
    -Hailstorm
    -Brawn
-Sideswipe (or Sidearm Sideswipe, though he has no blades I think)
    -Dropkick
    -Landmine
    -Soundwave
... The list honestly just goes oooonn and oooon. There are tons of very neat Deluxes to choose from. Those are just some of my faves.
    SCOUTS
I'm personnaly in love with the ROTF Scout line, it flat out rocks your socks! I'd recommend each and every one of them, if you like how they are. Just know they're not in scale with the rest of the figures. I still love the Scout movie styled Stunticons they're building up. We've already got Dead End and Breakdown, and we're getting a Dragstrip later this year, so to me, this line's absolutely fantastic.
    Few must-haves:
    -Breacher (he goes with Seaspray)
    -Skystalker (He goes with Mindwipe)
    -The Stunticons.

There. I think I about covered everything. I know you're probably not gonna get them all in one go, but those are your primary targets as to who you should be hunting down, in my opinion. They're all beautifully engineered figures.

PS: when I heard your story, it made me think of me XD 11; kinda collects, but doesn't take great care of 'hem. Later: Gets back into collectin'. :)

Human Alliance Barricade. What an epic figure.

Also, I would say ROTF Leader Optimus Prime. I'm still looking for him, my Autobots REALLY need a leader...They are falling into disarray...

I managed to collect of the Movie-verse figures that I wanted. I only bought those which were featured within the films themselve, with a few additional ones which I thought were cool (ROTF Ransack and Dirtboss).

Part of me wants to try to get TF1 Landmine so he can serve as a Hound stand in for my Autobot forces in my collection.

If you ever get the Takara-tomy figures, I'd hold out for Jet-pack Prime they are releasing for DOTM. He lacks his swords (if thats what you are after, then hold out for ROTF Prime), but he's been redesigned to fit in the six-pack Prime receives in DOTM.

If you can't get either, try finding Voyager Battle-Blades Optimus. Granted he's smaller, but he fits in good scale with most transformers, such as DOTM Ironhide, plus this Prime is the best detailed of all Voyager Primes.

I might get crap for this, but I would honestly say the original Skids and Mudflap. I hated their characters in the movie, but their toys I've always liked. And they look really good together. They both have just the right amount of complexity to their transformation. Also, if you can get a Deluxe Battle Blades Bee (The best Bee made in my opinion), you should look into Legends Ravage. The scale's really good to recreate a certain spine-ripping moment of the movie...
