I don't collect the twins. But I had to stop and take a double-take in Target the other day. What's up with the new Mudflap, who is essentially Skids with orange stripes ? Thought the orange guy was a jeepy sort of bot...

No, they always had very similar alt-modes. Now they have the same alt-modes, but he was certainly never Jeep-y.

Their transformations are very different, however.

Because, you know. Making not one, but TWO new molds for no-longer-on-screen characters who were universally reviled and notorious shelfwarmers makes sense. Especially when they're nigh-identical on the shelf, and, like 90% of the line, turn into cars with an awkward boxy gun on top.

... seriously, someone explain the logic of this to me.

Skids and Mudflap were originaly in the film, hence their presence on the toy shelves and in the novel. However, I think they were cut out of the film by Bay because they were so universally hated. There still is a brief moment in the film (I think when the Autobots all first drive into the NEST base early on) where their alt. modes are still clearly seen, though, so technically they are still in the movie even though they have less screen time than Jolt did in ROTF.

He's actually not. At all. Their transformations are totally different.

As for the vehicle modes, well, they're supposed to be twins, dude.

I would have rather seen them do the two bots from one alt for the Dreads.

Point taken, although twins doesn't necessarily mean identical ! A-HA ! I knew I had an a-ha out there, somewheres. Anyhow...

My main thought was that Mudflap used to be a Chevy Trax(which to me looks rather jeepish, or at the very least Scion-like), and has now apparently re-scanned himself into the more car-like Chevy Spark. But yeah, aside from Hasbro being able to get some play out of the same (apparent) mold, I just didn't get it. But now I know not to judge a bot, by his cover.

That has to do with the Chevy Spark beating out the Trax. Basically Chevy was working with three concept cars in 2007, where the Trax and Beat/Spark were two of 'em. Popularity polls taken concluded that the Beat/Spark was the shit, so it was going into production whereas the other two weren't. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Because of that Mudflap became a Spark.

Mudflap's alt. mode was essentially torn to bits when he got sucked up by Devestator in ROTF (the doors got ripped off, anyway), so I just assumed he was fixed up and scanned a Spark.

Which is kinda appropriate, since when the Twins change out of the ice cream truck, they BOTH want the green car, which was the Spark.

Ah... I like this line of thinking. It not only addresses the whole "We're not doing the Trax anymore" but also weaves in some movie continuity. Nicely played, sir !
