I'm liking what I hear more and more each day. I just hope I like what I see when the movie is released.

Yeah, I thought they were changing that.

What's the deal with the Furbies? Is it some inside joke that I just don't understand or is it just one more way for Bay to squeeze in a product placement?

The energon cube thing is so... wrong! Sure it doesn't describe the matrix really anymore either, but it's not describing an energon cube at the same time.

"This Energon cube — a black-and-gray box small enough to be tucked under an arm — acts as the movie's MacGuffin, since both armies of battle 'bots long for the rare and potent substance."

So, it's really an Energon cube? I thought that "ENergon cube" was a code for "Matrix of Leadership" but after that description....hm...
Still, it's a very good interview.

    Told.

    You.

    So.

Interesting that instead of changing the name of the "Energon Cube", they seem to be changing it's function to match the name, calling it a "rare and potent substance".

I thought it was already confirmed the name had been changed.

Maybe the actors don't know yet as they don't need to yet.

so far everything fits the leaked script.... i had serious hope for changes in the third act, but after at least 3 small spoiler sources "post-leaked draft", there's not a single change made to it :(

Its possible Paramount ran into problems clearing 'matrix' with legal because of the WB Matrix films. As I pointed out a few years back, the Wachowski brothers, being genre fans, might not have a problem with it, but WB and their lawyers would.

BUT they could change it to Matrix in post production, when all the principal actors come back in to do ADR (redub the lines made in audible due to location noise).

Don Murphy said that it wasn't a legal problem, but moreso a concern on Paramount's behalf that VIEWERS and CRITICS might erroneously believe that the name "Matrix" was a blatant rip-off from the Wachowski movies, regardless of the Transformers' Matrix being 13 years older.

Same reason that - allegedly - resulted in Bumblebe enot being a Volkswagen - viewers might shake it off as a "Herbie" rip-off.

It's common knowledge that VW doesn't want their cars associated with something "violent". That's why we never got a VW Alt Bumblebee.

This is neither here nor there but about all the spoiler warnings, to me the topic of an interview is warning enough and anything that the director and company is allowing to be heard isn't a spoiler. I mean, obviously Michael Bay and Hasbro don't think that these press interviews are spoiling the movie, so why should we :p

Both sound very logical to me. Matrix and Herbie are still too fresh in people's minds. Having an element called "The Matrix" and having a talking beetle two years after the release of "Herbie: Reloaded" would just be too distracted for non-fans.
