Can anyone tell me in which G1 episode...

    1. It shows the name of the Volcano the Autobots crash into is Mt. St. Hillary?

or 2. Shows that the Volcano is in Oregon.

Do these things actually appear in the cartoon or are they just in the comic?

    Thanks for any help!

It's one hundred percent comic. The G1 cartoon never named the volcano that happened to be located in a desert... never mind that it's geographically impossible for a desert to form around a volcano in real life. :p

That, and in real life there are only four states in the US that have volcanoes (Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii) and none of them have actual deserts.

Nor did the cartoon ever name the Autobot ship.

    Fun fact number 13:popcorn

Fun fact #14 - The "Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers" manga identified Autobot Headquarters as being in Arizona.

Actually...in the US there's Black Rock Desert (playa lake rather than sandy desert, but same principle) in Utah with a dormant volcano (last erupted about 1300 years ago) and Erta Ale and various other active volcanoes in the African Rift/Afar Depression, which is a deserty-type place...

Puts geology hard hat back in box again...

No volcanoes in Arizona in real life so can't really apply I say. :p  Admitedly, the cartoon location looks like Arizona but then, its never named.

OK, I guess you're a better geologist than I am. But I do think that desert in the cartoon looked like a sandy desert type rather than a playa lake.

Oh boy....I am a geologist. The western half of the state is forested while the eastern side is high plateau desert. What splits the two are the Cascade volcanoes. They used Mt. St. Helens, which erupted in 1980, which is in Washington as a model for Mt. St. Hilary. The volcano is never mentioned in the cartoon. Now, why did they did put it near Portland, Oregon and not in Washington....do not ask me because I have no clue.

if you want more info on my take, this is from my website.

Probably because Portland is in real life, the largest big city closest to Mt. St. Helens (the city is situated right where the Willamette and the Columbia meet, the latter river being the border between Oregon and Washington).

Yep, exactly! There's even a book out (probably out of print) about the settling of Eastern Washington called 'They Claimed a Desert'.

But to anyone who doesn't know what 'high plateau desert' looks like, its also known as 'sagebrush/cowboy country' as depicted in almost all western movies.

--Moony, who's entire mother's side of her family lives there (and is mentioned in the book), while she lives in the tiny little very NE portion that's Canadian Rockies foothills.

In the cartoon did they ever even mention that it was a volcano? If I'm wrong I'm sorry, haha
Just looks like a mountain to me...

Volcano is simply a mountain that has the capability of erupting, which it showed several times in the cartoon, since it has an opening from the Earth's core. However, not all mountains are volcanoes. But in this case, the volcano is a mountain since it illustrates a peak.

    I just realized something....

The day of Mt. St. Helens' eruption--May 18, 1980
    TF Anniversary--May 8, 1984

How about that? I lived in Portland for four years being a former student of Lewis & Clark.

First episode, the whole reason why the TFs were revived in the first place was because of volcanic activity. There was also another episode (can't recall which) where the Autobots prevent the volcano from erupting by blasting boulders into the crater.

Anyway, here's the TFwiki entry for it.

I think ECR is referring to the short story "Fire in the Dark" from the Transformers Legends book.

I do know that Lookout Mountain and Autobot City is located in Oregon. On my way up to Washington state, I took a few pics.

Urm, the link is merely to the TFwiki entry of Mt. St. Hilary. I've never even heard of "Fire in the dark". :redface2:

Decepticharge, I remember driving past that VERY location several times back when I lived in Oregon. :D
