I got into a debate with a friend of mine over which was better: MSN or AIM. I know, pretty silly debate, but we do this alot. XD

Anyway, she sided with AIM, saying how she liked the "stalker" aspects of it (I told her that was creepy) - you know, how you can just create as many s/n's as you want and follow people around and they'll never even know. She mentioned to me how she missed the "warn" system, though. I'm glad it's gone personally - it made AIM really annoying.

I sided with MSN which was always my preferred messenger of choice a few years back. I hardly go on anymore (though that's starting to change now) and even though I've got an ancient version on my computer, I still prefer it over AIM. Why? Not sure. I just like how you can keep track of who's keepin tabs on you. And I'm not 100% sure, but I believe AIM never supported webcam conversations which I loved doing with my friends, although this may be different now. And I just like MSN's setup better. It's also my "secret hidey-hole" Unless I really like a person, they aren't getting my MSN information. It's been that way for me for years; even when I wasn't using it, I'd give out my contact info to people I liked.

I'm also debating on fully updating MSN, but before I bother updating it, I just wanted to get opinions on the newest version as well.

I haven't seen anyone ask this question in recent times, and I'm just bored and curious. So what about you guys? Which do you prefer and why?

I use several messengers, but I find MSN causes the most problems when I am running other applications, and seems to be the biggest resource hog.

Weird. I never had problems with MSN. Is it the newer versions that cause the problems?

I'm not too sure anymore. It has a tendency to disconnect me mid-chat citing idle, even though I'm in mid sentence. I'll have to re-log maybe 5 times in less than an hour.

A friend of mine was having that issue last night, though I think her internet is just wonky in general. But she has the latest version - so that might be it. Perhaps I won't update MSN if newer versions give people nothing but problems. o.o

I don't use either... I've made a ban on having anyone install them on my computer unless they un-check the RUN ON STARTUP button... Both of them slowed my machine down on the startup to the point where my 2 minute "welcome to Windows" was a brief wait compared to the infinite things MSN and/or AIM decided to run. And I tend to play full-screen games a lot so if I forget to log off I could end up crashing the computer because someone I don't even know decides to IM me...

    email FTW

:lol  That's happened to me. I'll be playing a game and up pops that annoying IM window. I've lost count of how many times I've died in computer games because of AIM.

I have to keep the Run on Startup feature inactive otherwise I'll go insane.

    ICQ, 112431453. :D

I still have it on here, even though none of the 30 or so people on my list ever come online, and I regularly get messages from Russian women looking for husbands. Seems there's demand for men like me. :D
