i have had LOADS of people tell me lately that my MSN messenger keeps sending out random messages giving out LINKS and stuff....im not sure wat it is because i have ran AVG but cannot find anything... im assuming its a spam bot or something like that but i dunno how to remove it. has anyone had a problem like this before with msn? if so then how do i get rid of the problem?
Don't use MSN Messenger period. Use Meebo - Connecting AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, MySpace messengers Lot less of a resource whore, doesn't have to boot up when the computer does, keeps everything in one nice window (that you can still "popout" if you want to).
It's not just MSN. One of my old friend's AIM account got hacked, and sends me links. They looked fishy, so I never clicked on any of them. All I can say is get a new account, make sure you never post your SN to anywhere that looks suspicious.
MSN's messenger doesn't require loading at Startup to function. It's just automatically set to do so when installed. You can change that so it doesn't do it. All of the messengers do it, so it's not just a Microsoft thing. Seriously, aside from the resource issue (and depending on the rig you have, it's not a problem) MSN's messenger isn't all evil.
I'm aware of that, which is why I always unchecked that option. Having multiple messengers running simultaneously is just annoying when you can just have everybody on one giant buddy list.
While I agree with meebo and I use it quite a bit, it isn't safe from the random messages from your friends promoting some web site you know they'd never visit.
just change your password it should fix it immediately ive had it happen to me and make sure you dont click links from a friend knwoing its a wierd site and something they likely wouldnt go to
