News: MS: Natal launch to be as big as 360's - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

"The launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360 motion peripheral, Project Natal will be as big as that of the Xbox 360 itself.

That's according to Xbox 360 strategy boss Shane Kim, who told Kotaku that the motion came has "got to have a great launch line-up" before Microsoft's introduces it to the shops.

"Conceptually, the launch of Natal will be like the launch of Xbox 360," he said. "It's going to be that big. We're not just going to ship it when the hardware and software are ready.

"We have to make sure that there are enough content experiences that are really good. That's similar to how you would think of the launch of a new console. It's got to have a great launch line-up. That's the same thing here." That's probably why it's put Rare to work on Natal games.

On the audience MS hopes to capture with the add-on, Kim said: "We're not focused on this generation's casual gamers or even PS2 people who haven't upgraded. This is about the 60% of households were a video game console doesn't exist... the problem is that the controller is a barrier for some people and now with Project Natal we completely eliminate that."

The chances of us seeing the Xbox 720 within the next three years could literally depend on how the Natal launch goes. When will it happen? "2010 at the earliest," we're told..."

I bet Natal won't be out until fall/winter 2010 . Think about it. At least they said that the life of the 360 will be longer than it was of the original xbox.

It makes sense. MS said it would have tons of games available for it by the time it's launched. It's going to be like a system within a system.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Hope to see some sick stuff from it though.

That is impressive. Square, Acti-Bliz, EA, THQ, Konami.

Wonder what they can do with the Natal.

No, but really though, if you leaned, Snake could mimic your leaning. There was a tech demo on the Eyetoy that did that eons ago, and I always though it would work awesome on an FPS where you could peak around corners, since we sometimes do that anyway when playing a game or watching a movie.

So, how would you do the Psycho Crusher in a Natal compatible Street Fighter?

I don't see how this Natal would be fun seems like it would be annoying as **** and if you thought you looked weird playing the Wii well this would double that.

I do see mime's as the new hardcore 360 fans.

I just like the MSTK-style movie viewing. That could be a riot.

I have no interest in natal. it'd be useless in any game that requires your character to walk. I'm not gonna bark out directions or point where I want to go with my finger.

motion controls are fine, but as nintendo and sony know, you have to have a physical input too.

imagining pretending to hold onto a steering wheel or gun, when i could be holding a controller, well, it just seems stupid to me. I thought it was too easy to oversteer using the wii remote for racing games, I cant imagine how bad it'd be to not hold anything.

the only things I can see coming from natal are slightly enhanced PS2 eyetoy games. thats pretty much all they showed at E3, minus the human child version of seaman.

    meeeeeehhhhhhhh

The nice thing about Natal is that you no longer have to have the player visible on screen at all times. That alone opens up so many more creative avenues for use. Don't write it off just yet.

It's so cheap because of my thighs. :(

    I don't know.
See above comment about my thighs.

Yeah, that stereoscopic camera really changes its applications from the Wiimote or Sony's motion controller. There are some things it can do that the others simply can't
