    hey i'm a noob and i wanted to start collecting the masterpiece versions of the toys. I was just wondering what were some of the differences between the american version of skywarp and the japanese version. Is one a lesser quality toy are the colors different I can't really find anything other than one was made at wal mart with different packaging. Thanks

    Well, the Japanese versions of toys are almost always made out of better material. Other than that, I guess paint applications and QC may be a bit sloppier on the American one. Apparently, the seekers have had problems with backward thruster-nipples, so watch out for that.

    Takara qc isnt necessarily better. Iirc mp thundercracker had quite serious issues. Generally hasbro. Either way the mold is.somewhat delicate. The deco differences are easy enough to spot.

    LOL "Russian components, American components. ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!"

    Deco and paint apps are going to be the main, and only real, difference between the Hasbro and Takara releases. Hasbro relying more on the color of the molded plastic, while Takara will paint over the plastic to get the color they want. And that's really just a blanket statement about how Hasbro and Takara treat deco and paint apps.

    And the streets in Japan are paved with gold-chromed Masterpiece toys.

    The biggest difference is that the Takara version is covered in glossy black, while the Hasbro version is matte. Some of the sharp edges have also been shaved down on the hasbro version. The Hasbro version has the stripes printed on the wings, while the Takara version gives you the option to put on stickers for the wings.

    Also, something that I know a lot of people are nit-picky about is the fact that the Hasbro version has yellow eyes.

    Ebay:
    Hasbro's version of Skywarp uses MP Starscream's alternate smirking face, while Takara's version has a grimacing face as the alternate face.

    So to put it another way:
    If you want a Masterpiece Skywarp who looks like he's about to squeeze one out, get the Takara version.
    "Seekers, attackl"
    "Eep. back in a minute, Starscream, the tortoise is getting curious."

    I think the main answer to your question is that the US version has more of a cartoon deco whereas the Takara version goes for more of a "real jet" type of deco.

    Just go with the Walmart one, the only difference is the deco and the Hasbro one lacking some of the pointy bits, and the price.

    No no no no no no no. No!

    Here's a side-by-side... Takara on the left

    [IMG]

    Takara:
    * Red eyes
    * Gloss finish
    * Sticker sheet decals (includes more real-world-ish options)
    * White alt-mode missiles
    * Purple detail is quite a deep purple

    Hasbro:
    * Yellow eyes
    * Flatter finish to the black (not immediately obvious in the picture doe to the flash)
    * Factory-applied decoration
    * Purple tail fins
    * Black alt-mode missiles
    * Slightly blunted pointy bits (tail fin tips)
    * Purple detail is quite light

    I personally prefer the gloss finish and deeper purple on the Takara version, but the purple fins make him closer to the G1 colours.

    Thundercracker has red eyes :)
