Alright, I'm gonna go all collector noob here for a minute and ask, what is the difference between all the MP Optimus Prime's? Are they slightly different molds, different paint apps/chrome, or are they just different releases of the same toy to give others the same chance to get the mold? I'm confused here.

Before MP-10, which is the upcoming figure, all Masterpiece Primes shared the same mold, with minor differences here and there. Examples are paint differences, shortened smokestacks for the US versions, and an additional trailer for the MP-04 version.

MP-10 is an entirely new mold. It is smaller, but looks (depending on your perspective) more accurate to the animation model, especially in the alt mode.

The following link will explain most of the differences:

Let's see if I can do this by memory...

    TakaraTomy releases

    MP-01 = The first one.
MP-02 = The Ultra Magnus redeco in white.
    MP-04 = The one with a trailer.
MP-01B = Black redeco, as Nucleon Quest Convoy (I think)
MP-01S = "Sleep mode" or Dead Optimus
MP-01L = "Final ver." which is the last release of the mold.

    US releases

20th Anniversary = MP figure with shortened smokestacks and "battle damage" paint apps
"DVD" Prime = redeco in brighter "anime" colors, and came with a display stand with a voice box.

Hope I didn't forget anything. Aside from MP-10 of course.
