What does the little sliding bit on his chest do?

 

The entire chest slides along that groove. This way it can be lowered into position in bot mode and tightened back up in car mode.

 

I know the auction is over, but DAMN is that awesome. A true Masterpiece, and the ending price reflects that.

You did an awesome job, JAF. Kudos to you. If you ever make another Mirage, let us all know.
