Since the metals they use for it aren't generally susceptible to rust, you mean?

I'd wager they were given metal that wasn't up to snuff by someone. or even just one tainted batch of the whole mess of batches.

too late...happened to mine a few weeks back while I was dusting the shelves. Looked at his legs and spine and they were all yellowed and looked rusted. But it is not getting rust, just extreme yellowing, oily substance surrounding the die cast parts. managed to wipe it off with a cloth but the supposed chrome die-cast parts already have a shade of yellow to it..oh well.

Thanks for the post! Fortunately mine seems to be in the early stages and I er, managed to wipe it off. Only the feet are affected. The strange thing is that this is my first TF to have rusted! Anyone got tips to keep him rust free?

My Megs was just on display on my shelf.

Yeah, the zinc blend used in die-cast usually doesn't rust. Check countless G1ers and Go Bots. This would lead me to believe they used some different kind of metal on these.

Mine appears fine, though my room is never humid, and if it gets hot I turn on the AC. Which Megs is right near.

I'm thinking that there's a tainted batch out there. Maybe the earliest releases?

TAINTED LEAD PAINT! Don't lick Megs' feet!

doh, someone else already posted about lead paint.

I'll eventually pull mine back outta the box to check, but wtf... Metal toys from 1984 that cost $10 have yet to rust, and $100 megs can rust...

I saw some yellow brown stuff o it stated to panic, then saw it on the plastic too. Quiclky I relealised it was dust. I need to dust my toys more often. Though thanks for the warning I'll have to clear coat them later this month.

Can you imagine if my MISB was slowly rusting inside, and 10 years later, I decide not to open him and sell him instead, and the buyer opens only to find Rustotron...

Mine is MISB as well. That would really suck to open him years later to only find him a mess. Ugh!

Looks like God is going to have to smash everyones to dust somehow to convince all the denying people that MP-05 really IS fragile.

Sure, my mp megs is fragile if I were to throw him at a wall, or swing mp op at him like a hammer. Except for this rust thing now, but that's not really the same thing.

I keep mine in a nice, cool (ie Canadian) basement, not humid (humidifier is always running). Mine isn't rusted, but the metal is tarnished with fingerprints that won't wipe off as easily as they do on other smooth, shiny metal parts on other diecast transformers.

So umm yeah...nice new hidden special feature. "Comic Rust Megatron." Now we just need a new Masterpiece Perceptor with a vial of Chorostop!

I honestly can't tell if mine's stating to rust. There's no visible rust, and for good measure, I TF'ed him twice and he's fine. Though he's going to be a box hermit from now on.
