I know it's been done before but when I saw one I had to make it. Now this is about 95% done. I still need to finish panel lining the back and the legs. I also need to put a nice finish on him. I also have some stickers I might put on him but have not decided. I am still in the air about painting the missiles on the arm pods and the heat shield. The white heat shield kinda looks plain but I think if I paint it red it will stick out. I might paint it black. What do you guys think?
Look at the pose ability of this guy. Basically you can bend him into any pose but you have to move the wings out of the way. I went with a dark blue for the heat shield to find a happy medium. Kinda a tribute to the original.

So what do you guys think about the heatshield? Black? Should I take it off completely?

Looks great! Did you modify this or is a straight repaint?

Custom head. Basically I used a VF-1J Hikaru 1/48 scale. This is close to the color scheme as jetfire and I only needed to find the fastpacks and a custom head. The fastpacks are from the Myria super set. After that it was a straight repaint with several coats of dull and clear gloss. I think I am gonna paint the missiles on the forearms and add some of those stickers. I am gonna see what different color hearshields will look like and post the differences. Oh almost forgot. I also used the anime hands from the Myria set. Several people are making casts of them so they can be found relatively cheap. I just figured since I need the fastpacks I would buy a Myria and get the hands too. For those that do not know about the 1/48 scale yamato, they are fully transformable and not parts formers. On the older versions you had to take off the legs and use a different waist and then snap them on. Not on these, fully transformable and highly detailed with panels, working cockpit, rotating head. The poses are numberous. I cannot remember how many points of articulation but it's a lot.

Added some mock up heat shields. What do you guys think? The blue turned out better than I thought.

What figure did you use? Because I have been looking around for a good Valkyrie to mod, but I cant find a transforming one for less than 100$ XD

As for the heatsheild, I think black makes the figure flow better. But the blue is more accurate to the character, and since he is a MP I would go with blue :p

    Looking really great!

I'd go with either white or blue heatshield, the black one kindof dulls the appearance. Actually, I'd settle for the blue one, he'll look so much fresher with it :)

the black does nothing for me. Go blue, or leave it white. Otherwise very nice!

Well generally the 1/48 scale go for at least $100 plus and the fastpacks go for about $75. The custom head can be found for around $15. I got a break on the veritech so my cost was much less. If you look around Macross World you can find the red/white/and blue 1/48 and the green one relatively cheap. The fastpacks are actually kinda hard to find. In any case, I can't see getting this project done for under $100 but I have been wrong before. Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I have not done many customs and while I like criticism, some take things a little far. I know I'm not in the league of most of the members here but I am learning.
    thanks again MegaMus
