Thanks. I've tweaked the neck a bit. It's lower and fatter now, but he's just never going to have a rugby neck, much as I'd like to give him one. New pics soon.
Updates! I've slimmed down the inner sides of his rear doors, so now I can slap some thick soles onto his boots and give him a little more height and a tad more maneuverability. I'll have pics of that soon. In the meantime, I've pulled his front end off again, so you can see his inner workings. That's a dollar store book light under his dashboard. I wired an extra bulb onto it for the headlights. This is the first custom I've ever done with working headlights!
I said it once, twice maybe three times but i will still say it again...this is coming out awesome!!!! I dont think i said this b4 but i think your sculpting skills on that head R perfect!!! can't wait for ratchet man!!!
Oh HELL Yeah! Tom, that looks freakin' sweet! I am luving that shade of red & what about that pissed-off headsculpt? His neck looks much better now & the only thing I can suggest is adding slightly bigger wheels/tyres up the back to match the fronts. Oh & is that Ratchet I can spot in the background?
I'm loving it! I like the color, choice of vans, and overall design. I'm not a huge fan of the "organic" faces, but for one of my favorite characters to be represented in such an amazing way, I can get over it. I do have one observation though. The front tires stick out really far compared to the back ones. Maybe someone else already mentioned it. I only read the first two pages of replies.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the kind words. Black Sheep- The front and rear wheels are the same size, but the fronts do sit a little wider than the rears. It's just a side effect of the transformation scheme. Sstralkowski- Like you said, I could tinker with them a little to make the rears sit out further. I didn't think that it was that noticeable. Alloy Alchemist, Zildjidan, Rumble02, thanks for your support and positive feedback.
Thanks man! Even though our transformation schemes are different, I have to credit Jaf for the inspiration for this guy. His vanformers are the best I've seen. I might not get a chance to update pics today, but his grill is painted, the roof lights and visor are back on and I've fussed out the neck a bit and painted it. I even found a G.I. Joe Sigma Six rifle that makes a great fit on him. Oh right, I adjusted the rear wheels too. Stay tuned.
Real updates! I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the sun visor. It's soft pvc, which is a pain to paint. I'm willing to try plastic formulated paint, but I'm not sure how it's going to work. How do you think the black looks? The gun is from Sigma Six Snake Eyes. I had to cut off the stock to get it into his hand. I'm still deciding whether I'm going to keep it as a rifle or make it into a pistol like he had in the cartoon.
I pity da fool!!! Looks cool man..as for the soft pvc..I have always used acrylics on that type of plastic and never had an issue..
Acrylics will work just fine on that... In fact I've never found a plastic that doesn't take acrylic. I recommend Games Workshop / Citadel Colours - they're a little pricey but well worth it. I use them exclusively as they're mixable (unlike some enamels), coat evenly and the colours are very rich. BTW Tom, thanks for your input on my old Megatron thread... your advice helped loads, and he's now nearing completion (yeah that was months ago). Oh, and Ironhide is looking awesome. About time someone made an Ironhide toy that doesn't suck!
Thanks gents! I'm sure that acrylic won't interact with the soft plastic. It's just so thin and soft, I'm afraid that it will flake off when it gets bumped. I'm tempted to go with not having the visor at all, or making a new one out of styrene. But forget that (stuff)! Here comes Mongo!
Thanks guys! I'm trying a coat of plastics formulated spray paint. It's a risk, but I was thinking about making a new one out of hard plastic anyway. The gun is from a Sigma 6 Snake-Eyes. His roof now has a proper flip out handle and a holster for his blaster.
