Hello all. I haven't pulled the trigger on an MP Grimlock yet because of the steep price. However, I noticed that TFsource is out of stock and BBTS only has substandard packages remaining. Does anyone know whether these stores will re-stock or will this be a pretty limited item that I should buy while I can? I was sort of waiting to see if Hasbro would announce a U.S. version of this at a cheaper price. However, I am becoming very jealous of those of you who have picked him up already. He looks pretty awesome!

I had mine on pre-order for two reasons. First, I have the Takara versions of all my masterpiece figures. Second, like Magnus, Thundercracker, and Skywarp, there is no guarantee that any MP figure will get a Hasbro release. It's likely, but I wasn't taking chances.

Well, from what I've heard Takara is sold out and even Japanese stores won't have too many extras after pre-orders it seems. A US release would make sense but I would imagine that at the very least they will do a second run of them.

Yeah, exactly. Hasbro has been hinting at it heavily of late whenever asked, but who knows how long of a wait that will be?

    Pro-tip for collecting...

Don't wait. Get them as soon as you can. Ya just never know what the next hard to find character will be until it's hard to find.

If there is a US release (which I think there will be) there will definitely be changes to the arms, claws, and teeth. No way those will pass US toy safety test. Getting back on topic, you need to get one now! So far the 2nd runs of Masterpiece TFs have all been sub-standard.

Is it worth getting from BBTS even if they only have "substandard" left?

If you open your TFs HELL YES! If you're a MISB collector then you have a dilemma.

I've never had an issue with BBTS's "Sunstandard" packaging. This really just means "Not pristine". I've never paid the few extra bucks for the perfect packaging, and everything I've gotten from them has been really good condition in my opinion.

Yep, just go with substandard if you are opening it. And why wouldn't you? MP Grimlock deserves to be release and played with.

Substandard just means the box may have a corner ding or scratch. The figure itself is unaffected.

Heck, just mention short stacks and the orange barrel plug and you have two reasons to buy import right there. I'd have to agree that Grimlock will have similar changes if he gets a US release. Shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't include the drink tray and glasses because it's a choking hazard.

TFsource might not be out of stock, they said there were filling all of their pre-orders before putting them back up to order. I would echo everyone else and say that 1. A second run is inevitable, 2. A US release, albeit in someway lacking, is also inevitable, and 3. that ordering substandard is not a big deal at all. I recently ordered a substandard TakTom Anime MP Starscream and could honestly tell what was "wrong" with the box. If you're not planning on AFA'ing* it or keeping it in its plastic prison, why not save a few bucks?

*P.S. Transfans should get together and form an alternative to AFA with reasonable prices and actual expert opinion. There's a $800 graded nightbeat on ebay right now that the AFA marked as 1988 that's actually a chinese reissue. I emailed the seller and he was like "good to know" but so far hasn't done anything... AFA is the biggest scam evah.

Personally, I'm too impatient to wait for a possible Hasbro release of something as awesome as MP Grimlock and it would really suck if I waited and it never happened. Besides that, the Takara version will most certainly be better both in terms of the packaging and the actual toy.

Just buy Grimlock before its too late. Wait around and pay even more later on. If you really want one and have the money, buy it.

Remember: There is NOTHING more expensive than regret.

Just ask the people that waited around too long to buy or pre-order a city commander trailer.

BTW I have ordered sub-standard grade many times from BBTS and everything was in excellent condition, even the packaging.
