I think it's reasonable to expect decent QC for expensive figures such as these ones. I also think it's unreasonable not to expect paint chipping, joint issues, and so on on a figure that has so many mechanical parts that move against each other and where it's highly likely the person handling it screwed something up during transformation (wrong order of steps, moving a joint too far in one direction, etc). I mean, I've had my share of MP issues (on every single release) but given their complexity, I am only likely to point out obvious flaws such as weak joints that cannot support weight, and so on. Complaining about sprue marks? Give me a break, even LEGO has sprue marks :D

After much thinking, I decided to order a MP43 Megatron over Hot Toys Spider-Man advanced suit. The price of MP have been rather unreasonable to me recently but I guess my love for the BW crew overpowered me. Once Takara delivers Rattrap and Rhinox I can call it a day

Megatron's QC better not suck. I want a near perfect toy for that price

I think you might need to rein in those expectations.

I agree with other posters that you can't expect or demand flawless figures regardless of how expensive they are, however expectation obviously increase as prices do. The more you pay the more or better a product you hope or expect to get. Primal had paint chipping issues, but he costs half as much as Dinobot and and almost a third as much as Megatron. Sure these toys are larger and maybe more complex but for me the price increases don't seem to fully justify themselves on those factors alone. For Dinobot to come out and have a pretty serious flaw at the price they charged me for him, it leave a bad taste and does worry me concerning Megatron.

Yeah...I know I can't really expect too much and Takara's QC worries. That's why it took a long time for me to finally decide to go with Megatron

So far my Dinobot does not have QC issue and I like the paint on the beast mode, it seems paint chipping might be minimal (at least not Primal level). Megatron should be fine as he is larger, so the parts should be stronger....

    Let's hope for the best

I'm pretty sure you speak about "CHEAP HOLLOW PLASTIC SYNDROME", all the time, even to your psychologist, don't you?
Because believe me, if you don't, i'd surely ask professional support. Obsession is a very bad thing.

Yes, scoria's shoulder ratchet joints were very veeeerrryyy durable. So durable that the HOLYGODS themselves offered replacements. You just needed to buy soar to have them.
Even soar's leg clips were very durable.
So durable HOLYGODS themselves offered diecast replacements.you just needed to buy their fatgrimlock wannabee to have them (or another of their woundrous products, i don't remember well ...)

Grinder, Phoenix, Koot, Spindrift, Terminus to name others have been good. I did say there’s some first party that are stronger and well made. Just focus on Megatron. I’m not here to compete and bash figures like you’re doing.

Anyone think MP43 looks durable? Thoughts?

Not bashing (i have all FT dinobots by the way).
Just reporting objective facts about scoria and soar.
As objective as dinobot's ratchet problems.

"Paintchipping will happen no matter what." A lot of my 3rd party figures don't have paint chipping.

And none of my MPs (thankfully/ yet) have had paint issues. I am not including Primal or Sunstreaker, who I haven’t handled a lot or Megatron/ Inferno who I don’t own. So... paint chipping is NOT inevitable.

And I had no QC issues up until Tracks and Hot Rod V2.

I don’t understood people who excuse poor QC. Awaiting the inevitable, “But Soul of Chokogin is more expensive and has worse QC”

Paint chipping issues are usually more about design than they are about materials. Chipping will occur when painted surfaces rub up against others. If the toy is designed such that contact between those areas can be minimized, it will be less likely to happen.

For the record, I don't know of any 3P figures to be 90%+ painted on their surface like Megatron, Sunstreaker, or the BW MPs are.

MP Ironhide is painted essentially head to toe though and although I have handled him a decent amount, I have not yet had paint chipping with him

He did have chrome rub issues, though, which was a different matter. But yeah, Ironhide/Ratchet have pretty good parts clearances.

That's one of my favourite things about the mold, is how cleanly their jigsaw panels all slip past each other and lock together.

One of the top Kobayashi molds, IMO. Premium paint job, hefty, solid figure, reasonable price point, reasonable (i.e. not frustrating transformation). Only things I would have added were a different (more secure) mechanism for changing the faces and a few more real car details. I’m ok with the hip flaps and butt tires.

I eventually sprang for the 3P Shadow Fisher upgrades to fix the hip door issue, but it does render the vehicle mode a bit less clean looking because of the angled hinge that now runs through the door.
