Agree. Sunstreaker's mold is very car-detail-accurate, but the paint apps are just.... eh. It's why for the first time ever, I am looking forward to a decal set for an MP carbot. Usually they don't need any extra detail, but this one... yeah. This one's gonna need it.*

*never got ironhide nor inferno and can't speak to how much they may need stickers.

And really Takara, thank you. I love it, I'm gettin it, but would it kill ya to include something like this as an alternate head?

I know, I know .. it was never in the toon, but boy howdy I bet a lot of fans would like one. Or maybe just me.

I would mind slightly more toy accurate ears than those. Ones that point inward more a bit.

You will very likely get a more toy accurate head with either Spinout or Checkpoint. Spinout's head still has yellow vents, so you could swap.

Personally, I love the head. I already have several interpretations of the toy head including the original toy. I never had an anime head until now.

Could someone synopsize the diff btw toy vs toon head sculpts? I would pull random photos off the Interwebs but the animation is so sketchy I'm worried I'd blunder into a MP Shockwave situation, where everyone thought they saw what they didn't ...

In a nustshell, the toon had these rounded 'wings' on the sides of his head - solid yellow:

Which sometimes looked ok, and sometimes looked really goofy

And the toy, the G1 and just about every other toy ever made, has angled fins on the sides, not rounded, with striped 'vents':

I have warmed up to the head that Takara made for Masterpiece Sunstreaker. It's nice. I just really prefer the toy-based head design on a purely aesthetic level. But I mostly prefer the toy head designs to the toon ones, so ... MP makes that kinda hard on me.

Good grief, every time I see Sunbow Productions' stills, I'm reminded of just how piss poor the drawing was in the original toons. I'm in the same boat...not hating on the TT head design as-is, but this figure would scratch my nostalgia itch much more effectively with a toy homage head. At least the faction symbol isn't totally FUBAR, like the purple smudge on MP-36.

This looks just about perfect to me. Wish Takara would take heed but I guess that would deviate from the cartoon too much (sigh) .

So glad they went with the clean ears of the character model. We've had enough vent ears and greebled up helmets over the years.

The vans would've been better off with no heads and Megatron with a trigger dick? No thanks. The G1 toys exist, but we've never had good G1 anime homage figures before.

I guess I should have added more winkies.
    ;)  ;)  ;)

eta: But seriously, I think the CW head was the best blend of the two original styles.

I don't mind the vents, i actually like the ears being clean, i just don't like the way the ears are shaped, but i'm fine with that.

Count me team 'vent head' haha ... I love the small schisms within the MP collector world ... reminds me of the theological debates of early Christendom ... :)

As a philosopher married to a religion teacher, I totally dig this.

Exactly. I have my original Sunstreaker figure with a "toy" head; I'm much happier with a show head on the MP version. I would say the same for any character who had an original G1 figure that notably differed from the animation model. This is why I prefer the current direction of the MPs to earlier releases in the line. I've wanted figures of original G1 characters with original show-accurate appearances since the beginning in the mid-Eighties. Even as a kid, I always wished my Optimus, Brawn, Megatron, Reflector, et al., could look more like they did on the show. Finally, all these years later, slowly, it's happening. My original G1 figure collection is all well and good, but the MPs with the current aesthetic do something it never did very well, and I am very grateful for it.

So it won't be possible to get this figure for under $100 once it comes out? And no, I will not buy a KO.
