You answered your own question. SAL is signicantly slower then EMS. Totally not worth the meager savings, IMO. My package left Japan on the 29th and has hit the US AND cleared customs on the 30th. Totally worth it.

I'd hardly call $20 "meager", when that's 1/4 of the price of the figure.

Generally SAL is used domestically, or for smaller packages. Anything MP sized is better served with EMS. I have only had one thing in the years of ordering that arrived quickly by SAL, and it was about the size of small envelope, and maybe 1.5 inches thick.

Yeah, I couldn't pay twice as much for EMS. I know SAL is pretty slow, but I've never had it get stuck at this stage for so long; usually it updates about once a day. I guess the holidays have slowed it down.

Yep. The idea, at least for me, is to save as much money as possible buying overseas.

    My thoughts exactly.

My package of two MP's and four Legends figures was 5000 yen for SAL and 5900 yen for EMS. Guess life is all about perspective. For me, the $8 is a no brainer.

*taps fingers* I paid for mine from AE but I apparently missed them before they took a vactation as it's been stuck in the "shipping paid" status since Thursday... At least I paid EMS (ALWAYS EMS!) and have it with several other things (Sunstreaker, a Diaclone, and some Legends) so shipping, while $70, covered 7 items total.

Well, that's promising. Not a surprise given the weekend and New Year's. Usually you will get notification when the package moves in and out of the office of exchange, but outward bound is always a good sign.

Once mine arrives the first thing I'm doing is painting the eyes.

Looking at the above picture, that's the first thing that came to mind. He looks like a zombiebot with those eyes. I'm painting those eyes red.

I was thinking of chroming the eyes. Just think he'd look super sinister with silver eyes pointing out from that black helmet :)

Yeah, I’m contemplating doing something with the eyes. They look dead, though I’m not sure that’s a bad thing with this particular figure. Evil dark eyes with a glint of red in direct light may be something I want to keep on him.

That would be an interesting look. :)

I just got it in the mail from HLJ, so I'll look closely when I get home, but seeing those black eyes reminds me of this:

I actually think the dead lifeless eyes suit a Unicron-controlled clone of Prime:

"A clone of Convoy has been created by Unicron. A formidable fighting force, destruction is an urge arising from the depths of its being. Launches attacks throughout the cosmos against Transformers making no distinction between Cybertron or Destron. His destructive power on the battleground is dedicated to the resurrection of his Lord. He follows the will of Unicron; a personification of his evil."
