Yeah. I can appreciate the novelty of a comic-book accurate paint job. I would probably appreciate it even more if it was a cheaper toy, like Classics Grimlock colored like the Marvel comic. I think the silver color looks pretty darn cool. But this guy costs more than the previous version, and this particular choice of colors just makes it look like he sat out too long in the sun. I can imagine some neat comic-accurate repaints. For example, MP Megatron with no changes except for a black helmet and a new face mold could be pretty cool.
Yeah, great looking figure, but I to am not a fan of using blue parts for black because it's the way its shaded in the comic. If you REALLY want to go that route, I would suggest using a gradient similar to that Darth Vader figure a few posts before. The flat, washed out blue doesn't really give the rest of the toy justice. But man that silver is nice.
Takara Masterpiece MP08X Grimlock This is my review of MP08X Grimlock. Surprisingly, I have yet to see a review on this figure here on tfw2005, so here goes. The box. The box of MP08x is unique as compared to other transformers masterpiece boxes. It differentiates itself by having a comic style book look which I believe is one of a kind among the other transformers masterpiece boxes. Interestingly enough, I think this is the first transformers masterpiece box with English words on it. Interesting...... Robot mode With his crown Without crown I won't go into much detail about grimlock as it is basically the same mold as the regular MP08 version. I believe there is already a feedback there about it in tfw2005 and plenty of reviews on this figure's articulation, poseability and etc. So, this review will be mainly on the speciality if MP08X; the premium paint apps. The glossy/sparkly silver on this figure is really remarkable. I believe it makes it a world of difference when compared to the regular MP08 version. Chrome......... Close Up of Grimlock..... Back of figure Dinosaur mode As again, the premium paint apps really makes a difference. Chromed Teeth... Back of Dinosaur Accessories The crown Instructions and card The cons....... Unfortunately, my MP08X Grimlock has some paint chips. However, this does not mean that this was a factory error. This MP08X Grimlock was BIB(Back In Box) when I bought it. In other words, it was bought second-hand and not new. So, I assumed that the paint chip was caused by the owners of the MP08X before. On the side of the body..... Behind the crown..... Rating: 9.5/10 Here is Grimlock with Thundercracker Note: The photos are not taken by other people. I took the photos myself.
Thank you for the review! I have been looking for a review of this extremely rare and cool figure for awhile now.
Oh wow, this thread was really hidden beneath the other threads before! I even tried to search for mp08x in the search box and only mp09b rodimus thread came up. Oh well. It's a fantastic figure overall and I feel the need for more leds in my display cabinet just for this figure! (due to it's shiny silver paint)
I would LOVE to own this one for my Grimlock collection. I really wish I had the $250 when he first came out. Now he's $500 to $600 and I can't afford nor justify paying that much for one figure.
It's funny, back when this came out the colors didn't do much for me, but now when I look at it I absolutely lust over that silver paintjob. *sigh* Yet another toy to run back and buy when I finally get that time machine built.
Does all the MP08X King Grimlocks come with an orange sword? Or only some? I was thinking of offering my Mp08X King Grimlock for sale/trade when the someone informed me that the sword that my grimlock has is the clear version, not the orange version..... Oh, and I bought it BIB, from another owner, so perhaps that's the cause of it but I'd still like to hear your opinion.....
They should all come with the orange sword. Sounds like the previous owner swapped the sword from the standard MP Grimlock.
