No, Hot Rod kills Prime. Take a good look at the laser blasts that hit Prime in that scene. They're orange, while Megatron's pistol is clearly firing purple blasts. The orange lasers are used by Autobots. Megatron, like all cartoon villains, is unable to hit anything with his firearm. It is clear that Hot Rod killed Prime.
Copy-and-pasting from the Best/Worst Molds Thread... Like others have said, it's a good display piece and can be transformed and manipulated if you're careful with it (I haven't broken mine). However, pieces will always fall off during transformation and, no matter how careful you are, if you take it out of the box, there's a very good chance the feet will tarnish. IMO, this figure is an engineering nightmare and definitely not worth the ~$110 I paid for it.
Perhaps you need a new copy of the movie! Look at my screen in the background. That purple you see around the edges of the screen is the first of the fatal shots MEGATRON fires at Prime! In the shots that follow you see Megatron fire them, then you watch those shots hit Prime. I have two of them but you can only put one on Rodimus sadly. They are only for the left arm.
i just looked at the movie i see no orange lasers, and if you look in those pics the person gave me you can clearly see purple lasers.
I've been quite happy with mine. Some things feel a bit weak, but just take your time and don't be too excessive, and he's fine. He's sturdy enough, he's just not meant to be manhandled like the mainline toys are. And depending on what you want, you can get some very dynamic poses from him.
