Can anyone who knows their Transformer lore tell me when Prime wore a cape, as made by iGear? Did he ever wear it in the comics?

For one brief panel in a Japanese G2 comic, Prime and Megatron both wore capes. Wiki to the rescue! The image is about mid-page.

    Transformers look ridiculous in capes.

I completely agree. I'd go even further to say that any type of fabric-type clothings looks just as absurd. However, some continually insist on the further anthropomorphization of robots to the nth degree.

Depends on the cape actually. Getter Robo has a cape, and in Armageddon looked utterly awesome with it. Sometimes the caped / cloaked look works, like in Spotlight Drift where Drift was hiding his identity as a Cybertronian around other aliens.

Most of the time though, yes it does look silly / excessive. But at other times, it's not so bad.

Capes suck on Transformers. Imagine if they took it further and put tights on them with fake muscles.

I just saw those G-2 comic scan pics for the first time today. OMG,I love them. both optimus & megatron look like royal kings wearing kings capes from the 1400's.

Also those capes on g-2 megs & prime evoke a "TF Zone" episode zombie decepticon style.

I think the Lockdown Poncho would have been a better upgrade kit than a prime cape.

Alpha Trion would like a word with you.
It really depends on how it's used. Sol Fury gave the example of Getter Robo. And, for as much of a distaste for Gundam Wing that I have, Gundam Sandrock's cloak worn during Endless Waltz worked very well with the design. And not to mention the idea that that Gundam spent much of it's time in the Arabian Desert.

Yeah, those are all valid points. I still feel the way I do though. Different strokes for different folks :)

Now, if you ever make a custom Kusanagi TF, he better have a cape now! :poke

I agree with Sol. It depends on the bot's design. For example, in the animated movie, I thought StarScream looked rather regal with it. On the flip side, I don't think characters like Bumblebee or Brawn would look good with one. LOL!
