The other day I watched the TF: ROTF Super Bowl Trailer. I noticed that I actually like the trailer more than the movie. In hindsight, I don't think it was the great movie that the trailer made it out to be

Have any of you ever seen a movie that made you disappointed after getting hyped up from the trailer?

The title is misleading because the way I'm reading it, it seems like you're asking about good movies that had shitty trailers, not the other way around.

nvm. I either read it wrong the 1st time or its been changed haha. Carry on. :)

Entrapment. Looked awesome in the trailer (maybe just the scene with Katherine Zeta Jones sliding under the lasers in that tight outfit), but the movie was shit.

Hard to beat out Phantom Menace for this particular category.

Pootie Tang. Not that I remember the trailer, I just use any opportunity I can to say how shitty a movie that was.

Honestly, I rarely even pay much attention to Trailers until after I've seen a film because even with hype aside, I often find that when I read too much into em, that I end up with a compromised viewing experience. The Island (2004) comes to mind right away for this, but I guess it would've been hard to get people into the theater for this without spoiling half the plot. Plus, the movie poster in itself did this too, so blaming the trailer alone doesn't seem fair.

One of the worst for me was 'Changing Lanes.' The entire movie was in the trailer.

Changing Lanes? I really wanted to see that at one point (likely because of how well the trailer booked it), but just never got around to it.

Also, just a thought, but maybe the mods should move this to the Movie & TV section :)  seems a better fit there.

Star Trek. I loved the trailer, I thought it looked great.

Then I saw the move; what a fucking failure. Even the trailer music (by Two Steps from Hell /shameless plug) was better than the score.

I could never understand the hate for the new Star Trek movie. I thought it was pretty well done.

Well for me, many of the scenes just seemed to be cut short after the fact. Not sure how that of all things became my peeve or even something I noticed, but that's just how I reacted to seeing it, almost as if they were tried to cut 30 minutes from the film & chose to take 1-2 seconds out of every frame instead of cutting out content completely.

    THIS

And I'm an old school Trekkie + Romulan fan. You'd think I'd be one of those Trek fans who'd be scorned and eternally hateful of JJ Abrams...but nope. I loved the movie and he succeeded in doing what he was hired to do - make a dying franchise a marketable, money-making product again.

On the other hand (and on topic) ST V, ST: Generations, ST: Insurrection and ST: Nemesis ALL looked fairly promising....

...yeah, talk about crap movies with decent trailers.

And someone beat me to naming TPM, but no shock there. To quote Red Letter Media: "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace the greatest example of cinematic blue balls in the history of motion pictures." Thank you Lucas for the awesome trailers, and eff you for the crap movie that was nowhere near as cool.

I know I will catch hell for this but Inception
It is literally one of the best trailers I've ever seen but I just couldn't get through the movie, I wanted to I really did but I got confused, then lost, so then I fell asleep
