I have the option of getting a TFTM Takara Voyager Blackout, used in box, or a Hasbro Premium version new in box, for pretty much the same price. Are both Blackouts identical, or do either of them have any plus-points over the other? I know they're much nicer than the regular Blackout (especially in helicopter mode - the regular robot mode probably has cooler colours, though), but just wondering which of these two I should get. I've already got a regular one.

    Thanks for any advice!

Honestly, they are pretty much the same. And I even have the Lawson's one.

The Premium Blackout is nearly identical to the Lawson Exclusive in Japan. Both versions are more screen accurate than the originals.

Ohh yeah. I thought he meant Japanese premium!

Go with the Hasbro premium then.

Yeah I have both and they're almost the same.

The colors are the same but the Premium one is a glossy blue-gray while the Lawson's one is a flat blue-gray. The Lawson's blue is nearly all painted while the Premium one is not painted.

Whichever version you get, be gentle. The automorphing feature is easy to break if you don't look over the instructions.

Thanks for the advice all! Is the Premium one which has the little electronics knob in front unpainted?

The Takara version was also named a Lawson's Exclusive?

The Premium version is uniformly painted save for some small paint apps made to look like wear and tear.

I believe the Takara version is separate from the Lawson Exclusive.

Cheers man. Looking at those I would say that the Lawson one is superior, even though I own the Premium version. I think the gold on the nose and the black instead of grey in robot mode swing it convincingly.

It is quite nice. Very happy with it and I got from BBTS a while back.

The included Japanese DVD of the movie is pretty awesome as well, if you don't mind Japanese menus.

I think I'll plunge for the Takara - it not being MISB ensures that I'll open it immediately and play with it the way it deserves! Non-current MISB items always hurt when I have to open them.

Would I be right in saying it's almost impossible to find a Lawson one around nowadays?

I honestly have no idea. Perhaps, although I do know a lot of people didn't want it due to how close it resembled the far cheaper "Premium" Has/Tak versions.

I believe it cost me a bit over $100 at the time.
