I can't help but notice the similarity between a certain Go-Bot, and a couple of the Movie-verse Decepticons...

His robot-mode is very close to The Fallen, while the vehicle mode is VERY much like Megatron's movie 1 "alien jet" mode.

Seriously, does anyone else see what I'm seeing?

Is it possible that the similarities are intentional or are they just coincidence? (Or are they non-existent and I'm just imagining things?)

Probably coincidental, though to be honest you never know. Maybe one of the concept designers vaguely remembered the toy and used their memories of the design as a starting point?

I'm skeptical over if the similarities are intentional (since it could get Hasbro / Takara-Tomy in hot water with Bandai) but let's look at the facts - Hasbro's design team keeps a folder with images of all kinds of cool robot toys that they sometimes reference for ideas and inspiration. It's not impossible something like this was among those pages.

... and now I'm going to go army build a few of these as minions for Movie Fallen...

It reminds me of ROTF Voyager Megatron, if anything.

Didn't Hasbro buy the Go Bots property? That's how Cy-Kill, Bug Bite and others keep showing up I thought

    It's complicated.

Hasbro brought Tonka, and with it the rights to the Go-Bots brand name. The individual names are like Transformer names, Hasbro can apply for them and secure them if they're available at the US Trademark office.

However, the designs are much harder for them to do. The toy designs are owned by Bandai, not Tonka who only licensed them back in the 80s, like Hasbro did with the initial Transformers toys. Therefore Hasbro cannot blatantly copy the designs, the closest you'll ever get are the likes of Mini-Con Leader 1 (same colours and similar robot, but vastly different vehicle mode) or Fracture (who is based on the animation model which already deviated pretty far from the toy design, plus the toy was a different type of car to the original anyway).

It's all shady territory, but it's as I said - the actual toy designs are all owned by Bandai. Hasbro can't touch 'em, they'd be playing with too much fire.

Now that you mention it, yeah... I can see that too. *nods*

Eh, I didn't think I was looking all that deeply. This particular Go-Bot just looks vaguely similar to both The Fallen (in robot mode) and Megatron (in it's alternate mode), and I was wondering if it was perhaps something intentional given that sometimes "Go-Bots" are purposefully referenced/homaged in "Transformers", both in toy design and allusions in fiction.

Think about it this way: If this Go-Bot had been released, say, now... then I'm sure that many would say, with little/no hesitation, that it was (at least in part) designed to resemble The Fallen/Megatron.

And if the design similarities are intentional, I'm just wondering why it hasn't been "discovered" before now. Usually such things are pointed out fairly quickly.

That video clip is the first time I've seen Heer Find in action!
I thought some of the voices were cool though.

They did a Classics style update with Machine Robo Rescue in 2003, Jet and Drill in that series are updated versions of the originals, newer sculpts and stuff, though not much better on poseability.

Been hoping for an SOC Jet Robo to go with Baikanfu, though no luck yet!
