Here's a review from a little entertainment section in the Sunday paper. They gave it 4 / 5. On the other page was a review for the Silver Surfer which only got 2.5 / 5. Go Transformers!

Another part of the paper mentioned in a little short "summary" section the following:

    Bring it! (Predictable, I know!)
I'm not sure about the "worst bit" being Maggie's accent. Do they have something against Australians?

It's an Australian paper. I'm guessing her accent is probably a bit cringe-worthy.

Ah! So it's more "giving a bad impression" thing probably. Not to me though - I like Rachel Taylor's 'twang'...

The "plot holes" he mentions puzzle me though. Why so some robots protect us? Why is the cube so important? All these are explained in the comic adaptation, so unless it's not present in the film anymore I think people just pay less attention to the 'quiet bits'.

But isn't she Australian in real life? Or does she speak with an American accent in the movie, and that's what sounds awful?

The Simpsons are popular. Very popular. And their movie is an underdog. Just like what Transformers was. People weren't expecting much from it; now it looks like it could possibly beat Pirates of the Carribean 3.

I knew it was not a US newspaper as soon as I read, "The mighty US forces are reduced to impotent fools." That seems a little contrived to me but I'm glad they liked the movie.

A Mack truck? Right. Ha, I know people who'd throw a fit if they find out a Peterbilt was called a Mack.

Yeah, she's aussie, and Bay wanted her to use her real accent for this movie. Its cultural cringe - we australians find certain types of our own accents painful, especially when used in the presence of americans (whom we eternally try to gain the attention of).

I think it was an overly aggro way of saying how the modern US military is almost completely dependant on technology now and extremely confident of their technological edge over the entire world. But in the case of TF, once the technology is rendered inert, there is chaos and confusion at the command level, inevitably leaving their soldiers stranded, like Lennox and Epps' unit appears to be.

Sounds like you should have written the article. What you said sounds much better then, "impotent fools". :)
