I've been sitting on this one for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. You all have seen these paint apps already on this forum (way before the new forum look), but they were with a crappy camera.

Well, as soon as I saw that Reprolables did a Movie Ratchet set I knew it was finally time to wrap this one up. So here's Ratchet one more time, now with Reprolables applied and new wheels and tires. Oh, and I busted out the good camera and lights too. :D

    Enjoy.

    It's...perfect! Absolutely perfect.

...well, not *perfect*, but damned close! (No criticisms - but nothing is ever *perfect*.)

Incredibly good work. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear about the paint and the tires/wheels....

Your pictures of bot mode and the second picture in alt mode are way to bright. Nice job putting actual hummer tires on it, thats a well overlooked mod .

Ugh. No kidding. I just logged onto a different computer and gave it a look...
That's what I get for adjusting the pictures in a room that's too dark with a monitor that's got the contrast cranked to high!

I'll definatly go back to the raws and re-balance those later...

And thanks for all the kind words guys! I really put a lot of work into this one.

Not much to say about the paint. I just painted the whole thing flat black and then painted over it being careful to leave black paint in the valleys where I wanted it dark. Drybrush for highlights. Spray paint for vehicle panels.

As for the tires, I got them off one of those 1:24 die-cast toys you see for $8 at the bigger drug stores. Turns out Movie Ratchet is a bit smaller than 1:24, but it still worked and he had oversized tires in the movie anyway.

I guess that's the funny thing...He didn't have Hummer tires/hubcaps in the movie. They were these big knobby things. But the tires that came with toy Ratchet didn't look anything like the movie either, and the ugly hubcap and tread sculpt wasn't doing him any favors. Stock Hummer tires definalty ended up looking better.

    So true...

Just my luck that hobby companies don't seem to make anything close to the shade used in the movie. I figured this was still a "rescue" color so I ran with it. I ended up liking it better than the correct shade. :D

Hey Cheebs I forgot to mention that I have my premium ratchet's wheels changed! There like some off-road tires probalbly in real life about 36". And I think I saw a similar shade of green close to the movie in krylon fusion at Lowes :) .

    you want that ratchet color?

the ratio is 20 parts yellow to 2 part blue and 1 part white
Doing this will be dead on match to the plastic.

So true! (about the mixing!) I used it for additional parts on mine.

it looks great! Love the tires, but I'm not sure about the wheels.

    keep on painting!

Alrighty, I readjusted the levels on the two pics of 'bot mode on the white backgrounds. Calibration on this monitor is ultra-wonky, and I don't really have my head wrapped around the color management settings on this new workstation so... maybe those two are fixed, maybe not.

They look good on this screen 'tho. :D

It does look awesome but the original paint is closer to the safety green the fire departments use
