Very quick photoshop redesign of movie Prime's head. May go back and tighten the whole thing up some more. Just wanted to get this version up and get a little feedback.

Maybe it's just me, but you have to think the movie designers did a few mock ups of Prime that look a little like this at some point. Not saying this is THE design. It's very much G1 cartoon. Maybe too much. Just wondering why this approach would be rejected outright for the designs that have been leaked.

It seems well done, but the head looks a little too simplistic and a little too... either short or wide.

It looks OK, but I think the top section is a little short.

2nd version still too short? I did change that too.

It looks pretty cool, but I think you might reduce the eye blareing...and such...and make it less angry looking.

I think the width is OK, but I still think there's a problem with the top section.

Nice work, by the way :D

A few more tweaks. Added a little texturing and highlighting to "real" it up a little more and removed some of the plating on the face.

Hope this looks a little less cartoony.

I like the third version a lot. It definitely fits in a bit better with the movie aesthetic, and seems more alive.

    Now it looks better.

It's much better than the movie version we've seen.

    Congratulations!

That's really awesome. Much better, in my opinion, than the mug they gave him.

Altered the jaw, faceplate and the vents on the sides of his face to make him look a little tougher.

Aja! That's how Prime should look. Keep with your great work Tim. :thumb

OK, here's something I've been playing with. I keep seeing a lot if "repaints" of Movie Prime. Usually Making him solid red and blue in robot mode. While this looks pretty good, it makes for a very boring truck mode. That is why the designers went with the flame idea, I think. Arguably, a large number of people don't like the flames for Prime. I personally do not.

Anyway, I decided to try a little experiment with the paint scheme. Nothing radically different. From a distance, the truck still looks like it has flames, but I tried to give it a more angular or techy feel. Another thing that made me think to try this was that Prime's trailer very well may not be in this movie. My bet is not at all. So, with this in mind, I tried to suggest the stripe pattern of Prime's trail into the existing flame paint scheme while also keeping in mind how the new pattern would look in both vehicle and robot modes.

    Truck Mode:

    Robot Mode:

I did alter the robot form very slightly to better match the most recent design (streamlined the feet, arms a bit) as well as add my head design and Prime's trusty G1 rifle.

Overall, nothing fancy. Just playing around with the idea of an altered paint scheme. Looking for a middleground, I guess. I'm in no way saying he should look exactly like what I've done here. Just messing around. I may try one more paint scheme treatment in a day or so.

The movie Prime design is one of the best we've seen so far, I think. It does a good job of retaining enough original visual call outs while updating the overall look. I think it just needs a little more G1 love and it would be great.

Thanks for checking it out and for any thoughts you might have.
