I was looking at the new Movie Prime poster and thinking how hard it would be, at that extreme detail level, to make all the kids coloring and activity books that you know are coming for this film, never mind a Cartoon show with an acceptable budget.

I think it's very likely we'll get a new, film-inspired, perhaps even explicitly Movie-based Transformers Cartoon next year. I don't think whether the film bombs or does wonderfully will change this, as with the Fox Godzilla cartoon, the wheels of animation, toy design, and merchandise will be too far in motion by that point to turn back no matter how the film does.

So, grant this new Post-movie TF Cartoon is coming. What will it look like? The designs are almost certainly gonna have to be majorly simplified from the film and likely we'll see this simplified Cartoon-Movie aesthetic begin with kids movie-merchandise.

Anyway, I decided to give it a shot and try my hand at simplifying the poster Prime design down to how he might appear in Movie Coloring books or a Cartoon. I looked at the poster design VERY closely and tried to include all the largest shapes that make up his body, just simplified and stripped of excess detail. Here's what I got:

-ZacWilliam, not the best artist around, but rather happy with this.

I should think anyone who doesn't like the skeletal look will certainly accept that for the cartoon.

That's pretty cool! I'd like to see movie Megatron drawn that way too, I think it'd look sweet

    Now with added Megatron

    Ask and you shall recieve.

WOW, he was a LOT harder to symplify and cartoonify than the Prime design! For Prime it was just a matter of identifying the main shapes that form his body. But Megsy is made of LOTS AND LOTS of little shapes point and angles. Really took some work to reduce him down to cartoon-style basics. Still, I'm rather happy with the results. Check it out:

-ZacWilliam, drawing them cartoon style has really helped these designs start to grow on me some. Megs reminds me a little of G1 Scorponok for some reason. Though that design could still use a little more color, imo.

Woah. You're good at this simplifying thing! Megatron's lookin' pretty kickass!

I agree on Megs, too. He's a bit dry of colour in the new movie, but then again G1 Megatron was just grey and black, really

Megs looks a little short might want to strech his legs out a bit.

    Great job! Especially on Megs.

Though I think that if we do see a movie-based cartoon show, it'll only be very loosely based on the movie. Otherwise the continuity problems that are bound to come up would severely hamper it; especially if/when the sequel comes out. If they make to cartoon as a direct continuation of the film anybody who didn’t watch the show would be completely lost in the sequel.

    But yeah, great artwork!
