I'm not saying that he's the best of all the different versions of Optimus, but after seeing DOTM, I can definitely say he shows the broadest range of emotions, both vocally and physically.

All of the other Optimus' (Optimi?) seem to always be calm, collected, and almost saint-like.

Movie Optimus has been happy, filled with rage, hurt (by Sentinel's betrayal in DOTM), frightened, and surprised. He really seems to be a lot more passionate, if anything.

I was surprised at Cullen's performance. The way he sounded when he confronted Sentinel after his betrayal was distraught to the point of being angry.

I agree. I felt that this is the closest that we've had to a "IRL" Optimus.

This may be why it bothers so many fans...he's not unrealistically saintlike. He doesn't just let villains walk away to fight another day. It's sometimes hard to accept that the person/character/whatever you idolize isn't quite on the pedestal you place them on.

I feel like Peter Cullen REALLY showed his ASS in DOTM! His range of emotion was beautiful. My favorite Prime of all time.

Agreed. I honestly think Peter Cullen's performance as Optimus Prime was the greatest asset to this movie franchise. Well done, Mr. Cullen!

    Have fun!!!

I agree with everyone here. He actually shows a broader range of emotion and feeling. And sometimes that's rage, which equals to face taking, which makes some fans think he's just a sadistic killer. Which is stupid.

Cullen really upped his distinguished game in DOTM.

Can anyone even FATHOM what the Movie Prime would have been like without Cullen? It's sick to even consider. SOOOOOOO glad they landed him. Best move Bay made, bar none....and that trumps even his Action-Movie Porn.

In terms of emotions, I think Animated Optimus wins.

I heard amazing voice work from Cullen when he was confronting Sentinel just after it became apparent. Great job!

Garry Chalk gave a great performance for Prime, especially in Armada after Smokescreen's death. He definitely had his moments in Beast Wars, as well.

Wasn't a fan of Transformers prior to the 2007 movie, but I agree 100%, Cullen is the glue to this particular franchise, and I personally think the most memorable voice actor of all time. The number one best move the production crew did!

Cullen was great in DOTM. I just wish they made him show some emotion in tf Prime because they can do it.

Cullen has always given the best performance as Optimus, except in Prime, where the script and little screentime doesn't give Cullen much to work with. But Cullen is in top form as Optimus in DOTM. I loved how almost heart broken he sounded when he confronted Sentinel in Washington, that his father figure betrayed him and killed his best friend.

Thumbs up to Bay for not only retaining Cullen for the voice, but for (as we see in the "Voices" featurette in the first movie DVD) actually help direct his performance.

But I think Animated Optimus and BW Primal tie with Movie Optimus for being the most passionate Optimus.

I was just about to post a thread about how "critics" criticized Bay for turning OP into a sadistic douchebag. In my opinion, movie Prime was the most real I've ever seen. While I think Prime has ALWAYS been a beacon of light to look up to, he is also a soldier & commander of a large unit & responsible for COUNTLESS lives. The TF's have been in this fight for thousands of years now & seeing his fellow brothers pass in battle, he's both compassionate & hardened at the same time. He still believes that "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" however, he also has seen his former brothers continue to fight for the Decepticon army. He knows that they are not all as willing to change sides like a Wheelie or Jetfire, so it is "Stop them at any cost!" He was willing to go 3-on-1 in the ROTF forest battle over ONE human being. Also, the movieverse world is set up to make us all feel like this is going on outside of our homes. If that is the case, the Autobots are not going to continue to watch Megatron & his soldiers fly away day after day knowing tomorrow they will be back & they kill countless more humans. The movie Cons are deadly, they aren't looking for hostages.... they want bodies.... or in the one case, blood splatterings. I've grown closer to movie Prime since '07 then I ever could have growing up with G1. Thank you Bay and more importantly Mr. Cullen for giving Prime so much depth in a series that did have a limited amount of time to TF character development. This was easily the best job in voice acting that I've ever heard!!!

DOTM showed how great Cullen is, he had a HUGE range of emotion. His lines in DC with Sentinel really showed how hurt and betrayed he was.

I honestly don't think that the Movies would have been the same without him.

As far as everyone complaining about him killing and maiming Decepticons, the way I look at it is, he's just tired of the war and is gonna end it however he can.

I can agree with this. In G1, he always seemed to be written either too stiffly or too broadly. No subtlety at all (of course, the franchise was not noted for it).

I do think it's legitimate to say that Optimus in the past has had a strong pacifist streak that was left out of the movie version. It seems to be back in the Prime incarnation.

That's not it at all. He was a bad ass in G1 as well. I mean, remember the '86 movie? He slaughtered the Decepticon ranks and basically told Megatron that it all ends here and now. One or the other would die.

The difference is in temperament. Bay Prime was overly negative in the things he would say. Prime just wouldn't say that he's going to kill 'em all. He would say something more along the lines that he would save the city no matter the cost, or who was in his way. Prime by nature has always been compassionate. He wouldn't have let the city burn and countless lives be lost. I understand it was all a dramatic contrivance but it's still out of character considering his subsequent reactions. That doesn't mean that he would let the Decepticons live. He'd go about his business in the same way. It's just the temperament that is off.

It's that heroes do what they have to do reluctantly. They don't give in to blind rage. The complaint with movie Prime is that he seemed to take pleasure in his work too often and that isn't a heroic trait.
