Here are some pics of my movie Megatron repaint. I hope you enjoy.

Stage 1: I seperated a few of the main parts for easier painting. A few dabs of Silly Putty were placed in the gaps and holes to protect the light and sound features while painting. Once the main painting was complete, the Silly Putty is easily removed (This is a great method for painting realistic camo on military models). I used a dark gray Krylon spray primer for the first coat. Once this coat dried, I sprayed the pieces with matte varnish

Stage 2: I then painted the seperate pieces using Krylon silver spray paint. Once this coat dried, I sprayed it with matte varnish and reassembled the figure.

Stage 3: Basically, this is the finished figure. I used several ink washes to add depth and age to the look. I then painted the gold and copper details as well as some silver drybrushing to clean up the ink washes. Sealed again with matte varnish.

And here are a few close-up shots. I hope you can see some of the detail work a bit better. I actually painted parts in the eye silver to better reflect Megatron's movie look. Of course, the light piping and electronics all still work.

Thank you for taking a look. Feel free to share any thoughts you might have. I value your input. Take care!

This figure is now available on Ebay

    Holy....

By Primus that is some great work.

All these Megs repaints are making me want to pick up the figure...except I wouldn't be able to pull these off nearly as well. Even still, that is just plain awesome.

    Haven't taken any yet.

His alt mode is so damn ugly, I didn't feel like even messing with his clunky transformation.

    Maybe in the future...

I wanted to paint mine but, looking at yours, I know for a fact it would not look nearly as good.

    You did a GREAT job!

Could you please post some pictures of its jet mode?

As I said on DM.Net: Best Megatron kitbash yet.

Oh, and what is that black wash trick? It looks very neat, but I have no idea how to do it.

It's not exactly straight black. I mixed black and coffee brown inks together.

It's fairly simple. Brush on the ink with lots of water. The diluted ink finds the deepest points on the mold and dries, giving the illusion of greater depth and brings out a lot of the fine details. Once the ink has dried, I go back over the high points with the highlight color (silver, golds, coppers) to make the high points pop.

Thanks for your kind words, Ra88. Always nice to hear from you.
