Yeah I know, we suck at release dates. :p

    ANYWAYS!
The movie opened here OFFICIALLY on August 8th (previous release date was Aug 11th) but since there was such a long delay between it opening in the US and opening here, they have been pretty much having special "pre-screening" events at least twice a week every week since early July.
The ticket sales and attendance headcount from those shows are not factored into the official screening records, so it is safe to say that you can add at least another 5,000 tickets bought to that number.

But it did hit #1 on the movie chart, with about 20,000 people coming to see it in it's first week of release which is pretty good for an opening weekend, not to mention for a movie that has been out every else for weeks already. It is showing in 10 theatres nationwide (that's about 80% of them) and is still getting major advertising on radio/TV/and newspapers.

It's also getting very good reviews from critics and even better reviews from the public (blogs/review sites/discussion boards and such) with a high number of them wanting to go and see it again!
My little geeky heart is just so proud... :D

    And here are some pictures!

'Kraftvélar' the sponsors of the movie here, are a company specializing in the selling and leasing of major construction vehicles.

The FULL-PAGE ad in the national newspaper last week. I was so seriously not expecting that when I turned the page that morning :lol

But yes. Definitely one of the biggest films of the year here, just had to share! :)

I'm just wondering how you were able to have a couple of Constructicons from the sequel in attendance?

I was half-expecting it to be spelled "Transfromers" for some reason.

    Hmm.

So, while 15-20 k people going to see it may not sound like much where you guys come from, here it's like 15% of THE ENTIRE POPULATION. So yes, a BIG opening indeed. ;)

I went to see it on opening night and despite seriously screwing up my right knee (now there is a "battle" scar I will carry for life for sure) I was very pleased to see the theatre absolutely PACKED.
As expected, most of the people laughed at the Sam bits, but were equally impressed by the 'giant robots fighting!' bits.

I also went to a screening last sunday at the nearest mall (sundays here are when most people go to the movies....I have no idea why, it's just a trend) and as soon as I walked in there, I was shocked.
The line for the ticket agent was at least a 100 people long. AND THIS IS 10 MINUTES BEFORE SHOWTIME.
I frequent the movie theatres here, but NEVER have I seen such a long line.
Again, my little geek heart was just SO PROUD. :D

I have to say I was amazed at all the adverts when I was there too. The UK doesn't seem to have half the banners around that Iceland had when I was there.

We certainly didn't have any constructicons chillin' by the cinema.

Go, go Icelandic transfans! There must be a few more!

    That's great!

And since given Iceland's cost of living, tickets must cost about $212 USD, this should easily put us over the $2 billion-mark.

Newspapers are heavily promoting the movie in Iceland, eh?

Where I live, the "newspapers" only called it "brainless" and claimed that the movie was (no joke) a conspiracy to make kids see a violent movie. When they weren't under the impression that Transformers had never been marketed to kids before, some of the columnists were actually BRAGGING about Transformers having always been kept out of their wholesome households.

I'm proud to say that I get my news from the Internet instead.

Oh yeah, and GO ICELAND! Seriously, I'm thrilled that the movie shoots to #1 in so many countries!

EDIT: Fixed a hilarious typo. LOL.

NOTHER EDIT: I just noticed that in Iceland, Planet Terror and Death Proof are SEPARATE. O_O
