I wasn't really happy with my first version of a movie style Grimlock, but this one feels much better. If I do any future touchups to this design, I'll probably do something to the tires on the arms. He transforms into an RG-33L armored vehicle.

 

So, is he a triplechanger then? Or is beast mode his robot mode?

 

so he's a triple changer, per se? t-rex, robot, vehicle?

I like the design a lot but I think the choice of vehicle too closely resembles Bonecrusher, but great design nonetheless

yeah, he's a triple changer. The vehicle mode was a tough one, since nowadays all non-tank armored vehicles either look like Bonecrusher, or Wreckage. But in terms of the actual vehicle, it would be like saying Barricade couldn't be in the movie because Bumblebee is already a car.

 

Anything that's not a silver t-rex that turns into a robot, I see as an improvement... 

 

turn him into a monster truck called t-rex and make a monster truck cross tyrannosaur third mode.. just an out there spurr of the moment thought... good design btw mate

Monster trucks don't really have enough mass to turn into anything. They're just wheels and an engine. the rest is roll cage.

 

I like it. Very cool design. I don't mind having Grimlock be a triple changer. I actually think it works better in the world of the movie that way he's still a "robot in disguise". Just as long as the T-rex is in there, I'm fine with it.  

Are you going to design his robot mode as well? Just wondering.

 

I've got a robot mode in the works, just having some trouble with the legs at the moment

 

Early shot at the body incase anyone was curious. Yes, I did just copy and paste the arm and leg onto the other side. Still need to figure out a good head design.

You know the more I think about it, Grimlock as a vehicle that transforms into a T-rex without a humanoid form kinda works for me.

"Grimlock not need humanoid form, Just need munch metal!"

 

I agree completely, as long as they don't treat him like the animated move / season 3 / 'tell me a story' Grimlock.

 

i think that would be the idea there, just some sort of monsterous trex thing for bot mode, then like a jacked up f250 for alt mode, but oooh wait that would be original and not include somthing from GM *cough*sellouts*cough*

 

The robot mode looks sweet. I really like it. And I think the vehicle is a little ehh.

 

In case anyone cares, I made a crappy transformation gif to try and get over the mental wall I hit while working on the robot mode


I left out things like fingers and toes and the more detailed connections to limbs, just because they aren't crucial to the transformation.
