the theater i always go to has one of those Standees, the Optimus Prime Banner, & the Bumblebee Banner. didn't see the Shockwave Banner but doesn't mean it couldn't have been on the other side where the rest of the screens were.

If you are talking about Penn Cinema, don't bother. They keep the awesome displays on the second floor. You'll never get them.

Hell, I got two friends on the inside, and I still can't get anything out of that theatre. Most I got was an Iron Man 2 poster (which I am EXTREMELY thankful for).

Sounds like me and you have the same hobbys. I love signage.

Best thing you can do is ask to speak to the manager, and just present it as a question of curiousity. You just want to know what happens when they are done advertising for the movie. After they explain that it gets destroyed (90% of the time), then follow that up with the natural, "do you think I could have/buy it?" question (based on the conversation.

You don't want to end up purchasing these things on eBay...they get way too expensive.

every theater is different in what they do with their displays.
I asked one of the employees what they do with their posters and displays. She told me it would be best to speak to the manager if I wanted somethig in particular but all Disney posters and displays go back to Disney, they apparently are not allowed to go to employees or other people. (I imagine this includes marvel movie stuff too now?)
She also said in their theater that after the poster or display is done being used the employees get first crack at it then if it doesn't go after that she guesses the manager might let me have it but to talk to her.

When i asked my theatre for the banner for the 2007 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film,
I was told that they usually just give the banners and posters to employees at random via a "Wheel of Fortune" so to speak.

Also, I doubt a banner for a movie like Transformers, with such a big fanbase and fans no doubt in the theatre, will be available for the general public.

Are you a regular customer? I don't know if this applies to movie theaters but my brother used to get things from our nearby gas station (giant inflatable Gatorade bottle and a few other things they used to hang from the ceiling to promote items) because he used to go there 2 - 3 times a day. He also got a huge inflatable Mark Martin car from the grocery store because he used to work there.

As nice as the cinema banners and stands are, the 27x40 inch poster version of that is really nice. The official version is double sided so you can light it up from the back and frame it. I still need to get a frame for mine. It's a really, really nice poster. Easily my favorite of any of the movies so far.

Like others have said, every theater is different. Some give stuff away, some aren't as nice. I'm a manager of a theater so I know all about this kind of stuff. Hence this picture:

They look great in my room by the way :D
