Yes, but in the end the MPAA is an extremely tight group these days that feel they rule the entirety of every movie ever filmed, whether it was done by a ten year old or a big-business Hollywood studio. No matter how much pull you have with them, the chances of being blackballed are better than the chances of being listened to if you argue with them. Granted, Spielburg has made tremendous money over the years for the MPAA, and they'd never blackball him, though they might ignore him. But that's why I said, "MAYBE" Spielburg, but I still feel that's a big maybe.
Nice... it's got that much action and violence that it was almost rated R. I think this might at least be a popcorn muncher... As for Shia... whatever. I can't say that I'm fond of him being in the fourth Indiana Jones, but whatever. He's popular recently for some reason.
Maybe a human character mistakenly gets into a vehicle that is actually a Decepticon, which subsequently transforms with them in it. That would be painful.
Probably more to it, but it'd be awesome if Spielburg just went in like "WTF you guys this movie is PG-13 and that's final ".
I doubt very much that it had an R rating based on what we have seen and other movies with as much or more violent content than this movie seems to have.
