yeah, saw that. I think he just took a blackbird model and broke it all up and attached the parts to prime.

what's the deal with movie accuracy?

    I don't get it.

The movie CGI did not have to follow constraints in reality.

Less accurate IMHO. The upper nose and cockpit clearly form the shoulder armor in the movie and the official toy---this one has I-don't-know-what forming the shoulder armor--the underside of the nose?

Also, where the official art/movie has the wings hanging off the nacelles, this one looks like they took parts from the D-21 drone which is (mistakenly) included in nearly every SR-71 kit out there. Might as well have used F-16 parts...

Finally, Prime clearly doesn't use the tailcone as a codpiece...

Understandable. My opinion is that if movie accuracy in figures like this is not important, then we can buy a robot figure with red and blue color and call it movie Optimus.

Problem is, there are ways to make the figure more accurate and true to the movie. Like the guy who made that Jet Prime combo in those pictures above. Those who have watched the movie know that Jetfire didn't combine with Prime, rather, his parts are used as armor for Prime which means that the above approach of using Jetfire alt mode as snap fit kit is the correct approach. Whereas Hasbro/Takara, acknowledging the demand of the TF fans worldwide, had no choice but to make Jetfire transformable from blackbird to robot mode and has to be able to combine with Prime without detaching any of the limbs (which is a rule of thumb in making transformers figure, otherwise, fans will call it cheating).

For people like me, who expect high quality movie merchandise, what Hasbro has accomplished with their Leader Jetfire figure is admirable. But not wanting to make the limbs come apart so that they can attach to various parts of Leader Optimus's body is ridiculous. Though, as I have stated, the reason behind is also understandable.

good points. to follow the movie's accuracy, hasbro should have made jetfire break into many snap on parts which fit onto prime.

Planning on doing some mod for Jet Prime, frenzy_rumble? I'm still not sure if I want to buy this Jetfire figure or not. I mean, even on his robot mode, he doesn't look so good. especially the body which looks so wide. Looking even more like a bionicle figure everytime I see it.

Oh yeah, makes more sense now that you've said it. You have the ROTF Jetfire already, right? Is there any way to make it look even a little more like the CGI image (lowering the shoulder armor, raising the turbines/wings) without partsforming?

I totally agree. The very reason the toy version of Jet-Prime is so far off from the CGI version is because they had to make Jetfire a "whole" toy that combines with Prime, while in the movie they only transplanted some parts of Jetfire and didn't necessarily have his entire frame hanging of OP's back or something like that.

Where can I find pics, screencaps, or cgi art of the combined Optimus? I'd like to take a shot at building a movie accurate model but references are scarce to say the least. I'd rather not have to wait until the dvd comes out ...but knowing my luck :banghead:

Yeah I've noticed. It's supposed to have special super-flat paint that helps absorb radar or something.

The only really clear/reliable images AFAIK are the concept art like I attached on the first post. There is a front and back view, and both are easy enough to find on Google.

yep. customizers should know this. while shiny is nice sometimes, a blackbird which was designed, engineered and painted to absorb radar ...should NEVER be shiny. flat flat flat! (uploading my pics now)
