After a 3 month hiatus from customizing, I've busted out the brushes and paints once again.

Continuing my line of movie repaints, here is Ironhide!

Ironhide was first base-coated with flat black and gloss black automotive acrylic epoxy paint. Multiple layers of drybrushing were added using Tamiya Acrylic gunmetal, metallic grey, flat aluminum, and chrome silver. The gold/copper highlights were added by painting Gunze-Sangyo acrylic clear yellow and orange on top of silver.

I also included close-up shots of the head, arms, and legs. There is a lot of detail on this mold, and it looks all the more impressive when painted. This is my favorite tftm figure to date.

    Thanks guys!

@iDD - I wish I could mod the guns like you did! I don't have the tools, skills, nor the guts to try something like that on my figures.

The most that I have done with epoxy is to support joint on this custom. If you notice on the 4th pic, the right part of the waist/hip that holds the pin for his chest plate is a little bumpy. It cracked while I was disassembling him. LOL.

Thanks! I will be getting Ratchet in a few days and I'll be working on him after Jazz and Classics Grimlock. I'm actually curious about the mold, as some people say it's really good, but I'm not impressed.

One big obstacle to getting Ratchet is the insanely high secondary market price, about the equivalent of $50!

Excellent stuff, a huge improvement on the factory paintjob! Look forward to seeing the next few ones you mention above.

Thanks! The premium Ironhide is rather disappointing. Snow on the windows? A huge autobot symbol on the hood? They could've at least put gunmetal detailing on the robot parts, something similar to what premium megatron has.

This is the only Ironhide I have seen that shows the chest plate in the proper colors. I always see the blue one, but know from the movie, it's black.

You don't see a lot of clean dry brushing all the time. Very sharp!!!

    Thanks for the kind words!

I did try my best to be as movie accurate as possible, basing most of the colors on hi-def movie scans from tfw2005. Unfortunately, the arms and legs were mostly an undiscernible mess of black/grey/silver metal, so I based my treatment of these areas on earlier repaints (such as Jin's).
