What is the most expensive Transformer ever? Do you know? This question popped into my mined after learning about DOTM Que, Leadfoot and the two Soundwaves being cancelled. Now they they're cancelled they will be really expensive on Ebay.

G1 Unicron proto was rumored to have slipped into a private collection for $10K.

I don't think any AFA listing has ever gone that high?

I don't know, but I'd imagine words like "lucky draw", "unreleased, "prototype", or "Botcon" are involved.

Yeah, it would likely be some extremely rare limited edition piece that never saw anything remotely close to a general release.

Failing that, maybe a MISB Black Zarak? Big Figure, only available in Japan, GPS problems, all three would probably drive up the price.

Not sure, you mean original retail or aftermarket prices? Because in that case, Cybertron Optimus Prime retailed for 40 USD and now goes for over 100. Which scenario should we pick?

Original retail price, I think MP Convoy [2.0 version] is the most expensive, unless RID Brave Max went for more in Japan when he was released.

Aftermarket prices, probably some black\gray\red prototype, a gold\blue\whatever lucky draw...who knows?

Probably either G1 Optimus Prime or any of the rarest Lucky Draw figures.

A US Piranacon Giftset AFA graded 85 sold for $15,000. There have been at least 3 other pieces that went for around $12,000.

These highend sales usually happen behind closed doors and are not highly publicized.

Killa is correct but one also must take into consideration the AFA rating causes an artificial scarcity of a figure at a high rating pushing up its price/value to a point which it could not possibly command if the AFA did not exist or rate transformers.

Definately not, a MISB G1 Fort Max can go for at least 3 grand.

I'm also gonna have to go with the Lucky Draw Unicron. I've never seen one sell for for less than $4000.

Outside of Lucky Draws, I'd go with this. A minty Black Zarak, stickers unapplied, maybe only opened to inspect for GPS damage, and finding none. I'd wager that would go pretty high.

I mean - you NEVER wanna buy a sealed one. Damn thing could be a box full of golden debris.
