Curious as to what everyone has seen go for the most expensive price, was it a Grand Maximus MISB, Black Zarak MISB, from everyones experience what have they found to be true and whats the most you'd be willing to pay for each item.

Wasn't there an AFA graded G1 Megatron that went for $13,000 a while back? I think that's the highest I've ever seen, even if almost everyone would agree it's actually worth a fraction of that.

Unfortunately, yes he is. AFA graded stuff with high grades tends to go for way more than the toy is worth, because it's been graded.

I thought there was an AFA graded Optimus that went for more than the Megatron KidDynamite mentioned. Might be wrong about that or it may have had a high asking price that no one payed.

Wow, and someone actually paid that or thats just how much they tried to get out of it? I'm curious why more sellers dont get there good stuff the AFA treatment to bump up the value.

Wow, people really are stupid. Forking out $12000 for a $40 toy :/ It's not even going to be that different now, is it?

To think all the other things that money could have been spent on :/ It could have fed a starving family for three years...

I remember that, but was it actually sold for that price or was the seller asking that much but never sold it? If it's just asking price but was never sold then I don't think it should count.

I've seen MISB G1 Devastators/Shockwaves/Primes/Megs on ebay with starting bids in the thousands. Really, really stupid.

I paid close to $3000 for a complete set of the white headmaster heads about six years ago... and I haven't even seen one since then. Those would be astronomical if they came up again.

My most expensive G1 figure that's not a reissue, was G1 Getaway; minus gun and Powermaster, for $5.

My most expensive reissue was G1 #6 Megs for $120.

In terms of size to prize ratio, i think a loose NM/Complete Monstructor may be the most expensive western G1 toy around. (?)Fairly low distribution due to it being a later toy, and the large amount of gold plastic makes it very brittle meaning people will pay quite a bit of money for a good example.

As for AFA.... i'm inclined to see it as an inevitable result of peoples desire to own
sealed examples of toys from their childhood. Boxes get damaged over time, tape rots, and some toys slip past the QC process. On top of which sometimes sellers will misrepresent what they're selling. An AFA grade (supposedly) offers reassurance that a toy fits a certain grade, and i can see why it's so popular.

$300 + IIRC. I forgot to mention the fact that the shells tend to discolour rather easily too.

    Ebay:
I actually saw and I have the ebay auction still saved in my ebay a MISB Battle GAEA.

The seller ( wheeljackslabb ) hade entered the wrong name, Battle Guyver and the item was not advirtised on any of the big tf boards, not even here. I was gonan show the link in TF on ebay but I forgott. Anyway the auction landed much lower to what I thought it would be. I would bet he could have gotten way way more if he hade advertised it and put in the rigth name and longer bid time.

    It landed on $1250

and that is a steal for a MISB Battle Gaea. I myself is as close u can get with an unused sticker sheet and minty figs. but this I have never seen one.

if anyone is interested of the big spenders like ams , hit me a pm and Ill give u the auction link so you can see for yourself.

Wow, BG has really spiked then... think I paid around $400. I cannot fathom why the KO makers never did one of him. Seems like there would be a market for it.

And no, not a big spender anymore. All of my Japanese G1 buys were prior to wife and kid.
