I'm putting a list together of single Botcon bots that have been skyrocketing in price the last few years, and trying to figure out exactly why. If anyone can answer that question, that would be awesome lol. Anyways, heres my list from making observations....

    Shattered Glass Rodimus
    Shattered Glass Optimus
    Dreadwind - 2007
    Alpha Trion - 2007
    Axalon Optimus Primal - 2006
    Darksyde Megatron - 2006

Considering theres about an equal number of each of these bots compared to other Botcon exclusives, how did this price rise on them so dramatically?

Hmm... Out of those, I would say 2006 pre-BW Megs is the most valuable on the secondary market. But you're right, they are all worth a small fortune. Dreadwind and Alpha Trion because they are the only versions available of those characters from G1 to fit in with the classics line, Rodimus is a cool black repaint that goes with the FP Scythe armour... No idea why Shattered Glass Prime us worth so much though.

One of the best OP molds to date + version of character that is evil and NOT Nemesis Prime coloration or name.

Can't argue with this logic. Still not sure if that justifies his secondary market value though...

Well, just by taking a glance at them, they are all bitching ass cool. Popular characters, popular molds, or both. Aren't all three of those years very popular in general?

Can you quantify how much the price on these stands out? Sounds like you just have an impression.

First off, notice that all the figures you mentioned except Hot Rod is a Voyager or bigger. Secondly, most of the figures have very good base molds. Finally, most of these figures are older and have had time to appreciate in value.

    2008 Shattered Glass Rodimus (1,100)
    - It's a black repaint
    - He's got a goatee
    - Fansproject Shadow Scyther
    - For the longest time this mold was hard to come by

    2008 Shattered Glass Optimus (1,150)
    - It's a good mold
    - It's prime. As Shattered Glass became more popular and the club continues to make more SG figure this is a must-have item.

    2007 Dreadwind (1,500)
    - Hasbro/TRU released Darkwing
    - The other bots in the set dropped in value when they got Henkei and Generations release so this became the hot item!
    - New head scuplt

    2007 Alpha Trion (1,400)
    - He's one of the 13
    - He comes with a minicon
    - He's fits into both the normal and SG continuity

    2006 Axalon Optimus Primal (925)
    - It's Prime, if you're going to own only one, this is it
    - The mold works, it translated very well into a cybertronian mode
    - He still has his electronics

    2006 Darksyde Megatron (500)
    - It's a good mold and at the time of release the base mold was that common either. The mold has also aged well.
    - New head sculpt
    - It's Megatron, you need him to do battle with Prime.
    - A loss less of these were made then the boxset. The prices of the other add-ons from this year aren't doing too bad either
    - The were issues with getting these at the con and a lot of people there missed out

Biggies who have not increased in value as much.

    2005 Deathsaurus (1,250)
    - The club made A LOT of these for its first convention and sat on there loose set for a long time. They only started dumping them last year. His value will probably go up as fewer and fewer become available.

    2008 Shattered Glass Megatron (1,100)
    - Rodimus stole the show from the two-pack
    - A noble Megatron? BORING. . .
    - His colors are too close to his normal self

2009 - 2011 stuff have not had time to appreciate in value plus the club has been making more and more each year.

If these are prices, seems a little inflated, I would say

You all make some valid points, especially Videriant. I for one am lucky enough to own just one of these bots, which is Dreadwind, I lucked out three years ago and got mine on ebay for $130, which is a friggin steal. I do have the KO Shattered Glass Prime which is surprisingly accurate, except for the head. I'm guessing the value for the Darksyde Megatron makes the most sense because there are only 500 made, but I wonder if Hasbro ever had the idea of re-releasing some of the most popular Botcon bots? Sure it sounds crazy, but they could make a mint just by pricing them fairly and marketing them to collectors like us. Then again, just a thought.

Hasbro didn't produce these. Funpub/Botcon which bought the rights from Hasbro did. Also, Hasbro makes millions mass producing toys for kids. The only ones you may potentially see is Dreadwind but unlikely as his whites are too close to the original Jetfire and Alpha Trion but unlikely because Hasbro has already milked that mold three times. Takara may produce an Alpha Trion at some point though.

Well I'm glad Megatron didn't go too high, was able to snag one recently :)
I'm trying to decide now whether to get Deathsaurus now, especially if BotCon ever does a Jap TF set, Star Saber's going to need his archnemesis :)

They're very rare (especially Megatron), with popular ideas and/or molds. It's as simple as that. The desire for these figures far outweighs the amount made.

Plus, people are fuelled further when terms like "exclusives", "limited editions" etc are being tied to the products.

So from marketing point of view, almost everything will be made into some kind of exclusive these days...

regarding SG Optimus, besides the valid points raised here, dont forget his tilted huge faction symbol, cracked wind-shield and the scribbles "Til all are gone". Those details make an awesome looking purple Prime look fuckin' Badass.

Yeah I guess so. I really wish this is the last year most of the exclusives are from the Animated stuff, I never really liked that aesthetic too much. I would have been much happier with a set of CHUG Stunticons instead.

i wouldn't be, i'd rather have animated stunticons since that's the only way we'd get those, classics stunticons will be out sometime, either official non combining ones or a third party combiner
