Midway seeks Mortal Kombat sale // News
anyone wanna split the cost? i'll go 50/50.
Maybe Capcom will buy it and we can finally get a MK vs SF game
maybe i'll buy it and you can all watch me rape the franchise and turn it into some ghastly children's cartoon for my own personal amusement.
Lets buy it and change the name to Kool Kids Kombat.
or Koolaid Kombat
Capcom should so buy it. XD
At this point i'm more worried about who is going to end up owning the Midway, Williams and Atari Games back catalogues when the madness is over.
It'll be no great tradgedy if theres no more shitty 3D Mortal Kombat games, but the thought of so many past greats suffering the same fate as the Data East and Taito collections make me a sad panda.
I do hope Namco or Capcom buy the franchise. Either company can give it a face lift and bring it back to glory.
I'd be amazed if any Japanese company gives a monkeys about Mortal Kombat, it'll probably end up at THQ or Activision.
Besides, I woulden't want dev teams that actually know how to make good fighting games wasting thier time trying to fix MK.
Would it not need to have attained glory first for it to reclaim it?
I did love the early games when I was younger, but nothing since - certainly not DC vs MK - has encouraged me to pick up anything newer. Probably for the best that it gets sold off to someone else, but who knows. The franchise might sink even lower!
Nah, I doubt Sega's console division would want it.
The one thing I hope happens is someone along the lines of a Capcom, Sega-Sammy or Namco get's ahold of it and brings it back to the Arcade (and makes a game that doesn't Suck!)
I highly doubt any respectable Japanese company will take such a risk with such a franchise as MK. I'm sure to bet another american company will likely get the rights if anything.
Namco seems like the only decent fit to me, a Boon-less MK could be done but wouldn't feel right to me. MK VS DC was pretty awsome though, incredibly so when compared to the other 3D MK games. Personally I wish someone would just kill off Midway and whore out their amazing back catalog of arcade games on the online services. Give us $5-$10 ports of Bally/Midway's (not the Atari stuff they aquired and have occasionally put out) games please.
Also, it's kind of shitty that the execs are doing this so they can reap bonuses that comes from money screwed out of former employee's. I don't wish to see these people lose their jobs but Sega had a fire sale out of one of their offices in San Fran, maybe Midway would do the same and Chicago isn't that far away.
It's been done, it was called Defender's of the Realm.
i'm talking... the next In the Night Garden
Me too but one could hope. The only one I see taking a chance on anything Midway is Namco considering their history.
We should get together and buy it. Kickback vs. Sub-Zero, Jux vs. Jax, Buzzbeak vs. Scorpion.
Come on, you've always wanted to see a polygon Kickback and Jux fight to the death.
So, Midway is hoping to stay afloat by selling their only profitable franchise?
From what I've read elsewhere thats the least desirable of the options. The bonuses is tiered two ways, both included selling off The Wheelman. Bonus 1 is to have a reorginization plan that keeps them in business and sell off the Mk franchise. Bonus 2 is to have a reorganization plan that keeps them in business and they keep the Mk franchise.
Bonus 1 is $1,292,500, while Bonus 2 is $1,965,000. So theres more money for the execs if they stay afloat and keep the MK franchise. I don't see Midway staying alive withut selling off MK for a a large chuck of change. I also don't see Midway without MK.
