    Mortal Kombat game in 2011

Why, when I heard it was back in 2D(fighting), did I get so excited? I'm a big fan of the 3D Mortal Kombat games, but a new MK with an old feel makes me tingly and nostalgiac. Funny how games can be like that

edit: posted same time as other thread. we are on our game today

Looks like it's kinda of a remake of MK2 with the tag team from UMK. Graphics are not particularly spectacular.

I'm far more curious about the possible film revamp then seeing Midway try to go back to its roots with another sad attempt to recapture the MK game glory. If I wanted to play a 2D MK with weak graphics, stilted combat, and awkward animations I'd go back and play MK1-3.

There are those who would downplay it but a large part of the original's appeal was its shock value/gore (more so then its actual gameplay). Now such things are far more common place in games and Midway seems incapable of bringing any new life to the series at this point. MK has become the Sonic of fighters.

I'd much rather see a follow-up/reinvention of Shaolin Monks, which was the best thing that happened to Mk in a long, long time. But I will admit I did enjoy Deception and Deadly Alliance.

As well as Armageddon, which were all generally favorably reviewed. I even enjoyed the DC game by being open-minded but I can certainly see why others don't.

I like what they are showing me, I think this is long overdue for this franchise.

Armageddon didn't really do it for me though. Decepticon was epic in scope, with a really well done adventure mode and some excellent mini-games (MK Chess was killer). Armageddon felt like a bit of step back for me. But Deception....I might have to bring that back out again.

Interesting... Raiden isn't evil anymore, still no Lui Kang... no Scorpion, either, huh... and definitely not a remake of #2 with Sektor and Nightwolf in the mix... definitely interesting to see where this one is going. Seeing the Pit return really makes it feel like it's back to it's roots somewhat. I loved the 3D games, but I wouldn't mind something that feels more old school. Worked for Street Fighter after all.

I could hit this up for entertainment value depending on the fighting system.

Day one for a more tuned up version of UMK3, LOL NO for pretty much anything else.

Looks great. The 3D MK's were complete garbage.

    2D fighting or GTFO.

I don't understand how anyone could be excited. The last few MK offerings were weak, and a video of them doing combos won't be enough to change my opinion.
Like Zero said, maybe it was just the blood that made it fun back in the day.

Looks interesting. I'll have to wait to see how it plays first but I could definitely be up for it.

    Looks good.
But I hate MK3 because of it's forced combo system. I like combos based on the fact one could combo (AKA Super Street Fighter 2), not as the only way of winning. The computer killed me on combos, it felt unnatural. I hope MK series will drop that way of doing combos.

    I loved Mortal Kombat 3 :)

Sad I can't play it anymore, because it's on DOS.

going back to their 2-d roots is long overdue and definitely the right decision. ever since trilogy, mk has sucked big time imo and the 3-d games were just terrible. that being said, the gameplay footage didn't really blow my mind. maybe i'm just used to the awesomeness of sf4 but i hope we get more info at e3. with this rejuvenation of fighting games recently how about a new killer instinct please. come on rare get in the game!

Oh god, I will so play this.

    SO play this.

I really am looking forward to a more casual fighting game. Yes!

Taking MK back to 2D is a very welcome news, since SFIV already shown that you don't need 3D to make a great fighting game. Hopefully along with the return of blood & gore, they can refine the gameplay and make it actually worthwhile to learn the combos in the training mode.

Looks cool that they're returning to the 2D style, but what I hope for is that the blood, gore, and fatalities would give me the same satisfaction as the blood-work I made in the God of War Series.Well, with what Kung Lao did to Sub-Zero,looks like I might get that satisfaction :D
