So, what? Jackson wants even more money? 'Cause if that's the case, I no longer have any interest in what he has to say or offer.

If he really is owed the money, I guess I can see that hes going after it as a matter of priniciple or whatever. Still sucks to have someone else helming the Hobbit.

He's trying to get what's owed to him.

It's not much different than when Marvel was trying to screw Stan Lee out of movie royalty money.

It's Hollywood. It's a pretty safe bet every single actor and director alive has been screwed over on money at least once.

    It's just sad.

New Line makes over 3 Billion (with a B) dollars on three movies and they then decide to shaft the guy responsible for making them the movies. Why? So what if they had to pay Jackson a quarter of a Billion bucks, I think they made a good profit. Why the need to screw with him and ruin the chances for another Billion bucks?

I seriously would like to know what it is about film studios that feel the need to screw people over on signed contracts. They made a deal, they should honor it. So what if they have to continue to pay Mr. Jackson a hefty sum. That's what they agreed to. What is with people in a position of power like this? They should be letting this man do whatever he wants. I know I would if someone made me that much money.

And less you think I'm just railling on New Line, how many of you remember what Sony did to Marvel over the first Spider-man movie?

The story I had heard about this was that a certain percentage was agreed to and that's what the original contract called for. Both parties signed. After the movies started getting past the billion mark, New Line "amended" the contract to say that anything past some amount they hadn't quite reached yet would be theirs scott-free. The dollar signs were big on the horizon, and they knew it.

I also read Peter said that this sort of thing happens a LOT in Hollywood and that most people simply aren't in a position to make a stand over it, and they've made lots of money, but not enough to battle a major studio and not get black-balled over it. He said he had enough money to keep himself afloat, so he'll make that stand.

Voila, a dissed studio is a pissed studio.

Wow! Just imagine it! Will Bay reinvent the hobbits as bug-like alien like creatures? And justifies it by saying, "Hey these guys are from middle-earth, wherever that is, and they should look like this and this and this and this trust me guys the humanoid look wont work..." :drunk

If NL is honest about the terms of the contract then they should not mind getting audited over the gross of the movie and find out if they still owe Jackson any money, but this is hollywood we are talking about so those billions of dollars surely made NL greedy. I am sure Jackson is right but sadly he is blacklisted by NL for asking what's rightfully his.

I don’t know about the legal issues to pick a side on who I think it right (my gut always tells me to go with the artist) but I find it disappointing they can’t work it out.

im torn. PJ got a quarter of a billion dollars. he should stop bitching. but at the same time, if it was owed to him, he should get it. but he seemed like he cared so much about the fans that he would do hobbit for free, so he should just try to find a way to get the movie made with him directing. then no one else would ever have to worry about it...

Lumpy, New Line offered to give him the helm on Hobbit in exchange for dropping the lawsuit. He didn't bite.
